I like the idea of running it to the nozzle at top of windshield frame but just spent lots of time money and energy refurbishing and installing hardtop with all new OEM gaskets. So will have to figure out how to get fluid to hood with a new nozzle-looking for a thread to see how others did it.

So I finally removed the spaghetti of wires that was an Accel aftermarket coil and a Mallory CDI box that was tucked under the blower on the back side of passenger front fender to get back to the original coil setup and free up some real estate on that side! While I was at it I installed a new distributor cap and rotor as well. The ballast resistor was mounted where the PO had it but I am pretty sure it is not in the correct spot. Anyone know where it should be or could post up a pic of that area on their '78! Thanks and here are some pics:

Two of my cap contacts were pretty cooked as the pic shows but she still ran well, bit better and smoother now. Big thanks to @Tools R Us to Kevin and John for their help and getting me moving in the righ direction.

... an Accel aftermarket coil and a Mallory CDI box ...

It was like a racin car,,, now, well kinda plain, even, dare I say it, pedestrian? :hillbilly:

@Tools R Us I am in Hillbilly land up here but having a race car ignition on a tractor motor is a little too "Dukes of Hazard" even here, but may be an accepted practice in Chino-lol!

@DSB345 thanks Dave, not nearly as impressive as yours will be though. I have my eye on a '77 though that might be the next project.

@DSB345 Dave is there any way you might be able to take a pic of your "new" '78 coil and ballast resistor position when you have a chance, not sure I have mine positioned where it should be. Thanks!

Of course! I'm at work but will do it as soon as I get home.

@DSB345 No rush Dave but I sure do appreciate it:beer:

Hey Dave is your ballast resistor maybe located separate from the coil? My connector is very short so I just figured it was mounted below coil or very close by

I have nothing like what you have anywhere near my Igniter. I believe those are for 77 and earlier. I don't recall having one on my other rig either. Mine may be internal, I'm missing one or you have the wrong set up.

The is definately possible-will try and research it. Maybe some of our other '78 owners can clue me in.

Some don't have an external resister, it's part of the wire coming from the ign switch.

Maybe @Coolerman Mark can chime in on this. My '78 wiring diagram does show a resistor connected off the coil. The white resistor in my pic above was connected when I had the Acell coil and Mallory box installed by PO. I just assumed it needed to stay, are some units set up with internal resistors? Or is my pictures white resistor not even a Toyota part?

@Tools R Us ok thanks Kevin, can post up pics of what I have connected currently tomorrow and maybe someone can tell me how to connect things if I need to remove the white resistor? Only thing noticed in last two weeks is she is harder starting when hot but does run excellent. Very good as a matter of fact. I thing the balance adjustment helped with how she is running.

Valve adjustment not balance-damn phone

'78 schematic shows resistor but not "ballast resistor". Try and get more pics on here. Might try running her without resistor, what could it hurt?
