Or compensate for the angle on the exhaust pipe you hook up to the downpipe.

So I decided to mount the battery on the firewall...

Ugly fab, check!'

There will be more gussetts, those were just to rough it in.

Battery restraint is Ruffstuff Specialties Oddessy/DieHard 34/78DT. It's pure beef! Love this thing. Plus I can't say enough good things about these guys, they accidentally sent me the wrong model, so they overnighted the correct one. That's customer service!!!

I guess I'll repaint the wheel wells since I've got them out. Just need to decide on white or semi flat black.

Opinions?

I decided to use up the scrap from the twin stick project...

ImageUploadedByIH8MUD Forum1437934602.329177.jpg

I think this will hold, I just hope I'm not putting too much stress on the cowl. On the other hand, I'm not rock bouncing this thing...

Maybe make a a second plate for the other side of the cowl and run bolts through the cowl? Essentially sandwiching the cowl? I'm sure there's a technical term for this but I haven't finished my mechanical engineering degree yet.

Initially, that was my plan but there are captured nuts on the interior side. I'm still thinking on how to skin this cat.

In other news, this project pretty much completes what's needed for an initial test drive. I still have to sort out my pyro, boost, and oil pressure gauge mounting. I also want to try to use the OEM temp gauge, but that's another can of worms.

Min that case you will probably be ok, maybe think about a support bracket at the end of the platform going down to the fender though.

I though you had used self-tapping screws before haha

Nice work, you're making some good progress. I'm 3 years deep in my diesel/nv4500 swap, but with a B3.3, and you're way ahead of me if it's any consolation! Don't be too scared of tearing into your NV4500 if you haven't addressed the noise issue yet. Thanks for the in depth plumbing info, I will refer back here when I get to that point (hopefully sooner than another 3 years!)
p.s. When are you announcing a group buy on those transmission tunnels ;)?

Thanks, I'm glad you're getting something out of this.

Funny thing about the noise, with the transmission tunnel on I don't hear anything. I really think it was a lot to do about nothing...We'll see when I get some miles on it.

As for the group buy...place your orders now for the tunnels, I'll have them done sometime before I'm 65 ;)

Didn't even think about that aspect, but now that you mention it I did drive my diesel K5 with both the stock 700r4 and then an SM465/NP205 with the tunnel off when I swapped in the manual, and wow was that loud (top was on too). More so with the 465 though. Carry on!

Really like the Blue Sea Littlefuse Holder

OEM Benz water temp sensor. Originally I think this was used for the auxiliary cooling fan. Works fine for the OEM cluster...

Been busy lately:

Intake cleaned, painted, installed
1/0 battery cables made up
Military battery terminals
Fusible link made, spares ready to go
Fused alternator circuit with Blue Sea systems sealed fuse holder
Etched, primed and painted fender wells
OEM water temp gauge operational now
Wiring harness loomed
Battery cables heat shielded

To do:
Re-install grille mesh and TOYOTA emblem, DIESEL emblem
Boost and Pyro gauges
Exhaust (farming this job out!)
Driveway alignment
Shocks
Mount bumper, wire winch

I was pretty stoked with how simple it was to adapt the OEM water temp gauge to this engine. Literally just run a wire using the OEM Benz connector on a temp sensor on the thermostat neck to the back of the cluster, fire it up, and watch the gauge rise. After idling for about 15 minutes the gauge was on the low end of the "normal" zone.

As for the oil pressure, I'm going to research what the 1F oil pressure was, if it's close, I'll try to adapt the transducer to the oil filter assembly. I've got a Autometer SportComp II gauge, but I've pretty much kept the "stock" look, so I'd like to use as little aftermarket gauges as possible...

Obviously I'm SOL with boost and pyro for OEM...

I forgot to show a shot of the battery installed...

I used some leftover foam from the SOR trans tunnel gasket cut into 1" strips and then sealed it with some ultra-black. Shouldn't have a problem with water, dirt, etc intrusion into the cab through the heater opening.

Heresy?

I also fabbed up a radiator support. Kinda crappy pics.

Still on the punch list:
Shocks
Gauge mounting
Torque checks
Lengthen front drive shaft
Tiny Tach
Front bumper, winch wiring

Mr. UPS man dropped off a gift yesterday...

Which part number did you get? Because there are 2 sizes of sensors. Thank you.

Have you had a chance to get the engine up to operating temperature and compare the dash temp reading with an infrared temp gun?
