Still going strong. Biggest problem is vibration backing fasteners out...

i'm still trying to dial my driveline angles in and i'm trying to look closely at yours for reference points. do you by chance have an angle finder you could put on your valve cover to tell me what tilt you have front to back? also do you have any pictures straight from they side as to how your front of the valve cover sits realitive to the top of your rad? i don't have any reference points on my frame because i'm not using any of the original drive line mounts. i really want to get the engine in before end of summer so i'm getting back to it again now that my daily driver is done

First of all thanks for posting your thread with helpful info-I've been following and applying some of what you've done on my OM617 swap:
Iirc you are running 33x10.50s, and mentioned with 4:10 gears that 5th gear is not as useful as it could be, Do you think running a 31" tire would lower the gearing enough to keep the 4:10s?

You gotta build thread?

Gents, I'll be driving the Drug-mule from Memphis, TN to Birmingham, AL this afternoon. Planning to hit the road at around 1:00pm local. If you see me moving, wave. If I'm on the side of the road, wave then come help...lol

Made it to the 'ham. Filled up on leaving to overflow, 222 miles to fill up (overflow) / 10.24gal : 21.67mpg avg mpg. Avg speed was about 67 mph.

4.56 gears
NV4500
OM617.952

Hot ride, but lots of thumbs up!

Where did you get your alternator belt and what is the part number? I have ordered 2 for a 84 300 TD and they are too narrow.

Thank you.

@warpdriv I just went to the parts house and told them I needed belts for an '82 300D 3.0L

I can look tomorrow and try to find out if need be.

Anyways,
I've got quite a few miles on the swap now and no problems. Just performing regular maintenance. I still have the weird issue of "loping" when the tank is less than half full. I'm guessing it has something to do with head pressure since the feed comes up from the bottom to the height of the middle of the tank, then down again.

Well, I'm bringing this thread up from the depths of hell. Since I built this rig my family and I have undergone significant life changes. I was medically retired from the Marine Corps, I've started back to school with the final goal of dental school, and we moved back across the country to Alabama. I met up with some Cruiserheads down here in Birmingham from DixielandCruisers. Great group of guys who took me right into the fold, even if I am a newb to wheeling this rig. Anyways, we went out to Choccolocco ORV Park here, about 90 miles from my door, yesterday and had a blast.

When I started building this rig, I had something like this in mind the whole time. So, without saying, wheeling with 2 (out of 3) of my boys was super special for me. Additionally, it was my middle son's birthday--we sold it as his "birthday adventure."

Immediately on the list for the Mule is a rear locker. Probably going to be a lunchbox locker of some sort, most likely a Spartan.

Most people, including myself will tell you not to use a lunchbox locker in the rear. They take the fun out of driving on the street.

Glad to see your still rocking it!!!

Use any other locker in the rear... Detroit, Yukon Grizzly, ARB or Toyota Elocker.

A lunchbox locker is good for the front

Will look into it!

glad to see you kept it. i always fear the threads where “life has changed and i’ve moved on” and it’s been sold and never hear of again. awesome to see your boys loving it as you’re getting to use it and meet new people doing it. that’s my favourite part of owning them myself. seeing my kids smile and the conversations i get into about landcruisers!!

by the way i had an aussie locker in the rear of mine. it made a little noise but wasn’t terrible until it snowed. then there was little to no control especially with mud terrains! i love my selectable locker much more. it’s worth the extra dollars as far as i’m concerned

I have the same feelings concerning builds that I follow. Life has changed, but I'm still hanging in there. I'm a full time student these days and I'll be applying to dental schools this summer. Going to get worse before it gets better, but hopefully it will all pay off in the end!

What kind of selectable locker are you running? ARB?
