The shiny silver 2006 LX470 was ours, or was it? Rewind a year and a half ago when we bought "Helga”, our 97 3X locked LC that we loved. I had so many plans for her but with my mom passing and the birth of our new third child, we just didn't do a lot with her over the last crazy year. After reading on Mud, I slowly realized for the type of wheeling/overlanding that we want to do and with three kids, I should probably get a 100 series. About six months ago I began “just looking” for a 100 or an LX. Two weeks ago an ’06 LX came up in Florida for only $16K and when I called on it, the salesman said that there was someone there buying it right then. I soon forgot about it as I was looking forward to spring break where I decided to take my six-year-old son to the Grand Canyon. Three days later, I had bought all of the extra camping gear and was getting things packed when the salesman called me back. He told me that the person's check bounced and it was mine if I wanted it and so just like that, I bought a couple plane tickets. I had a already justified the trip; if the LX was not what I wanted or did not meet expectations then I would just chalk this up to having a trip with my son who has never seen the ocean or has flown. If it did work out, the tickets were cheaper than shipping it to Kansas and we still have a boys trip. So off we went and when we got there, we found a completely immaculate, rust free, 2006 LX with 119K on the clock. It looked like an older lady had owned it which actually ended up being the case. As a bonus, the timing belt was done as well as all of its maintenance. We had a great time exploring Florida, telling stories, eating junk food, staying with strangers in Airbnbs (which was awesome), swimming, and visiting family. I must say that I have a very awesome wife who actually encouraged me to do this, even with a new born and 3yr old at home. We plan on making many many more memories with her, I just need more money for mods.

That infamous Atlanta Traffic.

congrats! looks like a nice find.

Good find! I'm in Olathe, KS with a '06 LC in the same silver color.

I called about this LX right after that check bounced, the salesman I talked to told me he thought it was sold but while I was still on the phone the salesman that sold it said no. The shipping was going to cost me at least another 1k and I didn't have time to fly over, plus the salesman never got back to me with a total price. I even got pics from the salesman's phone.

Congrats wsudu. Looks like you got yourself a gem of a truck. 119 k is like new. I hope it will serve you and your family well -- You need a safe truck for your "valuables".
Tech content:
Don't forget to check your wheel and spindle bearings frequently, and do the grease points (3 on each) on the drive shafts more often than changing the engine oil. This is probably the most neglected areas of PM for techs who do not specialize in LCs, although very easy to do.

That is crazy. I knew that someone on Mud would was going to post about it, she was a great deal. I know I was lucky because there were others right behind me waiting on it.

You are right about the drive shafts, they needed a bit of grease. Thanks for the tips.

I think I got passed on because the salesman was hesitant on shipping it. I ended up getting a great deal on a higher mileage 06 with an extensive maintenance record so we both came out with a win. Glad it went to an enthusiast.

Congrats on your purchase. I got mine about 2 years ago. Best car I’ve ever owned. We manage to pack our 4 kids in and hit the road fairly often. Good luck!

Congrats.. Make sure to take care of your boys Cruiser. ;)

Are you a part of TAC (Tornado Alley Cruisers)?

^^^^^ Hah, appropriate name.

I like Kansas (lived in Independence for 6 years), but don't miss Tornado Season there at all.

Well done on the trip! It looks like you got a smokin deal on that cruiser too.... Ha ha I am a little jealous. This seems like an experience that your kid will remember for the rest of his life. There is nothing quite like the experience of an adventure with dad 1 on 1.

Looks like a fantastic 100... and way to go Dad!

For a name, may I suggest "Snowbird" it is a Florida and Arizona term.
