I figured I'd put those new-fangled LED bulbs into my turn signals etc...of course I was going to need a new flasher or a whole handful of little resistor gizmos. The new flasher sounded simpler. And then I saw Coolerman had a ready-made plug in flasher for just that purpose. So I bought one.
Oops, apparently FJ40 flashers and FJ55 flashers are different. FJ40 flashers have a measly 2 prongs, FJ55 flashers have a mighty 3 prongs. Perhaps because the 55 flasher supplies flashiness to both the turn signals and the hazards in a 55. Don't know how the flashers work in a 40, don't care.
So, trying to push the 2 prong plug on the flasher into the 3 prong plug in the Pig didn't work. Therefore I got me a pair of 2 prong connectors, and a new crimper tool 'cause it was a good excuse to get a new tool.
Now, Coolerman seemed just as interested as I in try to figure out how to make this flasher work in a 55 and actually looked at the schematical wiring diagram for the 55 and deduced that there was an always-on 12v for the hazards and a keyed-on 12v for the turn signals, he even told me the colors of the wires. He further predicted that if I was to connect the Green-Red wire of his flasher to the Green wire of my Pig and his Green-Blue wire to my Green-Blue wire, that all would be well. He also pointed out that there were some errors in the schematic he was reading...
So I gave it a go. Following directions did not help at all. I had to settle for trial and error, watching out for smoke and/or flames of course.
My research shows that if I connect the flasher's Green-Blue to the Pig's Green wire and then the flasher's Green-Red wire to the Green-White wire of the Pig then my turn signals suddenly work as they're supposed to. Hooray. So I made some new crimps and plugged things together. Turn signals still worked.
Now, I was all prepared to have to go out and buy another LED flasher for the hazards. Strangely though, I found that if I pull the hazard switch AND have the turn switch engaged (either right or left) that the hazards work as intended. I am amazed.

With Pigheads sleuthing, I can start offering these to the FJ55 crowd with the correct FJ55 plug for plug and play LEDs. I will work on getting the web page updated. Swamped with harness building so it might take a week or two...

so, I originally just bought a handfull of replacement LED bulb-type thingies from NAPA, plugged 'em in and they worked just fine. Then, I happened to be in a big rig trailer shop and saw their display of LED replacement bulbs...awesome brightness. Two top-facing (or rear-facing, I guess, depending on how you mount them or look at them) LEDs with another 4 LEDs around the circumference. Hurts ones eyes to look at them. I just had to have them, so I did. And, they come in colors, I got the red for the red side of my taillight lenses, amber for the amber side (Aussie two-tone lenses) and more amber for the fronts.
"Racers Sport" is the name, but they work on slow rigs as well. Old NAPA bulb to show what I took out...
One may hijack one's own thread mayn't one?

I attempted trying to figure this LED thing out before and was disappointed with my inability.
Just got Coolerman’s LED adapter. Cool piece of kit!
Pighead, what did you do with that third wire and are you running leds up front as well?
Thanks for your sleuthing!

The third wire (White/Black) on my kit must be grounded under a bolt for the relay to function.
I am still working on this issue for the three terminal FJ55 turn signal relay. The two FJ55 schematics I have 74 and 75, are drawn different and I cannot figure out which one is wrong. I am going to have Pighead send me one of these relays to work with so we can figure this out so you don't have to have the turn signals on to make the azards work. I think I know what to dob but need the relay to test it.

Stay tuned!

So, Coolerman and I chatted a bit, I sent him my original 3-prong flashers (12/'74 Pig). He sent me another flasher with 3 wires coming out of it. Simple right? Of course not. 3 wire flasher worked just the same as 2 wire flasher. I could get turn signals to work, flasher worked only with turn signal switched on. we were stumped. He wanted me to scan my Pig schematic, which all I have is a Haynes and don't know how to scan if I had a scanning machine.
So, sitting and thinking and looking at the Pig one day I said "Hey, I have two flashers...what if" and I tried it. It worked. I don't know how or why, but wire up 2 of these flashers and everything blinks when it should.
My "spare" wire, the GB goes to the GB on the 2-wire blinker. one of the GL wires on the 3-wire blinker goes to the GL wire on the 2-wire blinker. The other 2 wires to the 3-wire blinker stayed were they were. Grounded them both to a bolt near the steering column, wrapped them up and zip-tied them out of the way.

It worked
Congratulations!

That mystery kicked my butt for a month or two before I ripped all the wiring out of the Pig and converted it to something my simple brain understands.

I've read this multiple times and looked at the pics and just can't understand it... I've never been the smartest guy in any room unless I'm alone w no plants...
Anyway, I have a 77 pig and the schematics show three wires going to the relay... The turn signals flash twice as fast as they should, front and rear, with the front left really weak... but flashing fast.. SO l locate the flasher relay by color code wire confirmation, and I have a PO installed two wire, w one wire hanging loose... it's the solid green one I believe... gotta check more closely tomorrow.. It was an end of day effort..
FOllowing the schematic, I was thinking come up on mud and find a vendor or a solution and this thread gets me the closest..
Is there a solution for the 77 pig three prong flasher relay that's plug n play ?
Still researching but can't find the answer..
thanks

This turn signal situation will be the end of me. We can get the emergency flashers working, but no turn signals. I did buy a new turn signal switch, which was a direct swap, but nothing is happening. Its almost like the turn signal switch is putting out nothing.
