thanks Kling-on! this sure is a lot of work. It will be worth it though when it's done!!!!

I was looking at some other threads in the 60's section and some threads in the hard core corner.

I was wondering if this should be moved to the hardcore corner. I have never thought of myself as hardcore, but it seems what I am doing is a pretty wild project.

What do you guys think, or does it even matter?

Hate to sound like a naysayer, but I think your clutch pivot point needs reinforcing. Like another strut from the firewall at the other end of the pivot bolt.

I woulda guessed Toyota woulda left the clutch mount in 62s, but I woulda been wrong (again).

I plan on reinforcing it. Thanks though.

so if I move this thread to the hard core corner, how do I do that?

Fixed my camera!

ok so here are some pics of the semi finished product. still need to put on the spring perches and paint it all up. the more detailed pics of the progress are still on my friends camera. will post them as soon as I get the USB cable.

I bet you're going to confuse some cruiserheads when they see that mounted under the rig. It's going to look great all painted up. It'll be hard to tell you modified that. Those are the mini ends on the axle right? I don't know if your answered this already but are you doing a disc brake conversion on the rear?

yea those are mini ends. I was going to do the disc conversion, but I am running out of $$$. I need to fix some stuff on my wife's old car so we can sell it. The 4 runner axle shafts with the drums are the same size as the 60's so the braking power will still be the same. down the road I might do it if we get enough $$$ for the pathfinder.

that came out pretty slick! way better than mine did, lol
i think you need to PM a Moderator to move it to HCC, it could go either way, but i was kinda disappointed i put mine there, I think some of the 40 section people never saw it there!

im thinking that Gearing will be kinda off, i dont ever see you needing 4th gear, and around town it may be a bit strange only having two gears to use 2nd and 3rd.. I wish i had 5.29's in my truck!, i just dont want to sacrifice Strength

I think I will just keep it here in the 60 section.

Thanks again Trevor for all your help.

As for the gearing I thought about it a lot and talked to a friend who has a similar set up. with my 700R4 I was running about 2200 RPM with the 4.11 gears in 4th going 75mph. If I stayed in third it was way up there, around 3200 RPM. 3rd gear is 1 to 1 in the 700R4 and 4th gear in the sm465 is 1 to 1. So dropping down to 3.70 gearing should be great for highway driving. Plus I will be driving on the interstate just about everyday. It is my daily driver. I agree 4.88 or 5.29 would sure be nice for crawling but I think it would suck on the highway.

You always can swap for a huge pimp tires for HW driving .. someghint like 38" with 20" wheels :D

and keep your trail tires safe ..

The hybrid process

Well here are pics of the process. At least the best pics I could get.

Slid the passenger side in and lined up the axle shaft with the side gear.

Welded up the end

img3596sw0.jpg

Drilled 3 1/2 holes and plug welded for extra measure

img3598qu7.jpg

here is the excess from the passenger side I used to slide over the driver side.

Once we lined everything up again. I welded it into place. drilled 3 1/2 holes on the drivers side as well and plug welded.

img3600ak5.jpg

Once that was done I fill welded the low spots and ground everything down.

Now it is just waiting to be placed under the axle and weld the perches up!!!

WOW nice mod and good work...Mini truck/60 mod wasnt around 20 years ago when I needed a center rear output for my 6o. I used a Dana 44 out of a Scout II. It is a perfect fit but not as cool as your mod.
Look forward to the end results of your build.

Thanks LCPhil!!!

Set the rear axle under the springs to see how the drive shaft would line up... and what do ya know??? I didn't get quite as lucky as I did when i did the 350 conversion. So I am going to need to get the rear driveshaft lengthened. I think I'll try to pick up one of those nice mini truck driveshafts with the double joint. Does anyone know if it is the same bolt pattern?

I had no idea what I was into either.

I can't wait to see the finished product either.

My wife is a pretty good sport about it too. Actually we recently got her a 97 FZJ-80 collectors edition. After the first time she drove it she said she would never drive anything else!!!:bounce::bounce::bounce: So she's got the cruiser bug too.

I am hoping to be done by the end of August.

Almost done!!!

and I finally got some timeWow it has been a while. I was out of town the past two weekends. I have made a lot of progress this weekend but my stupid camera is broken again:mad:

Here is what I got done

The rear axle is mounted
new rear driveshaft is in, ( I used a toyota DC at the t-case and cruiser stuff at the diff.)
crossmember is built and almost ready to be bolted in
exhaust is almost put back together.
call me crazy but i decided to not do the cut and turn, so...
front end is all put back together and ready to go!!!

Still need to do.....

finish off exhaust
bolt up crossmember
install new rear brake lines
bleed clutch and brake lines, then I can test drive it:D
measure and install shocks
install 32 spline front output shaft in t-case
install flange on front output
measure and send in front driveshaft for length and balanced
anti-wrap bar

I will post up pics as soon as I get a new charger and battery for my camera.

getting closer

Well I got the camera fixed so here of some pics. I am going to remove a leaf or two because it sets pretty high. I am having some braking issues if any one can help. I have bled the system four of five times and replaced the master but I still have no braking power. I need to pump the pedal 3-4 times and it seems to be fine. I am going to borrow a bleeder kit from my brother-in-law to see if there is any air trapped in the line. any suggestions?

here is the rear hybrid in it's place!!!!

It's dark out so the pics are not that great. I'll take some in the daylight when it is all done.

here is a couple shots of the crossmember. It works for now I might redo it later.
