Bastard!

Sounds like an awesome day.

so for the last month, I've been on a NC beer kick because outside of NC/SC it is just about impossible to find. I will miss all the great brews this great state produces and am glad I lived here as the craft beer movement took off and then went straight into space with the amount of great beer produced here.

So thought I'd list my favorite brews from here in a few of my favorite categories. There will be a separate category for limited releases.

IPA’s

  1. The Rainmaker (Green Man)

  2. Pernicious (Wicked Weed)

  3. X-Pat IPA (fort knight)
Honorable mention – Shiva (Asheville Brewing)

Porters

  1. Axis Nightmare (Big Boss)

  2. Coco Loco (NODA)

  3. Porter (Duck Rabbit)
Honorable Mention – Baltic Porter (Duck Rabbit)

Stouts

  1. Olde Hickory Imperial Stout

  2. Valdez (Pisgah)

  3. Rye Knot (NODA)
Honorable Mention – Oatmeal Stout (Brevard Brewing)

Pale Ales

  1. Pilot Mountain (Foothills)

  2. Single Hop Pale (Brevard)

  3. Jam Session (NODA)
Honorable Mention –Happy Monk (Granite Falls)

Limited Releases

  1. Monstro Imperial Stout (NODA)

  2. Hoppy Holidays (NODA)

  3. Event Horizon (Olde Hickory)

  4. Silent Night (Mother Earth)

  5. The Demon Dweller (Green Man)

  6. Omega Point (Olde Hickory)

Favorite Beer overall – Monstro (all that needs to be said is a Russian imperial style stout aged in Pappy Van Winkle Barrels)

Favorite Brewery overall – NODA (Brewing over 190 limited releases in their first year in business for their tap room??? What’s not to like)

needless to say I will be setting up some beer trade routes with ONSC members to exchange for some of the good NC stuff

I'll put up what I remember

@ Barleys in Greensville, SC, we found this awesome rare list. Tasted the double bastard, which was insanely thick, then had a north coast old stock. Double bastard was extremely thick, was difficult to get through a pint. The North Coast was not quite as thick, but the flavor was awesome:

On the way back we had to drop a friend at CLT, so after swinging by @1974FJ 's house we went to Sycamore Brewing for their 2 year anniversary bash. Don't have pics, but was very impressed by the Countryside IPA as well as the Beer 100 IPA, especially considering I've not heard of them before. I'll be looking for them at the local bottle shops:

so the most important thing to do I'm a new city is find a good beer store.

first one was quite obviously a beast.....

17.2%

next up one of the best double IPAs I've ever had.

Love Firestone. Not sure that Double Jack is 17%, though :)

Lagunitas has a couple of yummy new things out:

Born Yesterday Pale Ale

and

DoppleSticky

the beast grand cru in the first picture is 17.2

the double jack is around 10%

^^ AHHH gotcha thx :)

and also ty for the list, above, Al!!

$3.99/4 pack. Very full, hoppy and fruity. I'm surprised I like it. I might try to grab the other 6 4-packs they had in the AM.

I was tired of the Occulto (sp? tequila beer) and last years junk from the Bad Penny people. Wasn't a fan of the stack of Radler they rolled in last week, either (forgot the brand).

This was from the Exxon beer cave near work.

Habanero Sculpin - - don't do it unless you love heartburn and really hot stuff - - I couldn't hack it ;(

:muted: I nearly picked some up, but the guy at Fermental said, "Dude, that's NOT just a little spicy. Definitely NOT a sipper for the back porch."
From your comments, I'm glad he turned me another way.

No first hand experience, but I have hear that mixing Habanero with Grapefruit is pretty damn good.

Its strange, I love spicy food but not spicy beer, it ruins the taste for me. I don't even like drinking a good ale with spicy food. I'll drink a lager at that point.
