From left to right, Pliny the Elder from Russian River at 8%, 2015 pumpKYn at 15%, Supplication from Russian River at 7.7%, 2015 Rumpkin at 19% o_O, 2014 pumpKYn at 17.7%, Stone enjoy bt 12-25-15, 2014 The Beast Grand Cru at 18.2%, 2008 Mephistopheles Stout 15.5%, 2014 Samaels 14.8%, 2015 Goose Island Bourbon County Stout 15%, The Bruery (I have missed this place, only seem to get their sours in NC) 8 Maids a Milking 12%

Lots of these super high gravity brews made for a great day.

Andrea came out for a visit for a few days over xmas and we did some beer sampling. We hit up Odin Brewing, Northwest Brewing Co, Lake Tapps Brewing, Elysian Brewing and Cole street brewing..... pretty much tried all there was to try at every one.

And at Cole Street Brewing I found the Overlander IPA along with the matching Beer Glass. They don't bottle it anymore but I talked to the owner about bottling some more and he was open to the idea if I could get the Norwest Overland Society to go in on it again. If I can I may ship some bottles back home.

Zymurgy's 2015 Best Beers in America Results - American Homebrewers Association

Annual list of greatest beers is out.

Still have yet to try them all got to get in gear to find

16
T19 - consecration
T33 Farmhouse Ale
35
37
40
T45 Fat Head
T49 Odell
T49 Younger

That younger isn't going to happen this year though.... cant do a trip down there in Feb and its only available in the first 2 weeks of that month.

If NC breweries finally start to push out past the mid atlantic area I expect to see a few make the list soon. I'm guessing it will be wicked weed. They have what Noda brewing seems to have lost. Lots of different kinds of beer pumped out fast (noda brewed over 300 different beers in their first year) But seems they have shifted focus to a smaller selection and not really tried to expand their distribution. Wicked Weed is the first NC beer i've seen out of the region.

Woo hoo. Something open and something new

To all the Durham folks check out ponysaurus brewery in downtown. Headed out for a bottle shop but nothing was open and finally stumbled upon this place with a wrong turn doing a lap around downtown.

Lemon rind
Cedar chip
Tangerine IPA

Al - I can for sure hook you up with 33 Farmhouse and 49 Odell, pretty sure I have seen 37 here as well.

Oh and you have had 35 - I brought it to pisgah one year along with their Hells. Ordered them online (France 44) before the trip, remember?

Jason - have to love finding new breweries doing some urban exploring, especially one with a random name like that! Tangerine IPA sounds awesome.

It was a great find Brett and just in time too. So good in fact I had to go back.

Their beer de garde is amazing and I believe the only thing they are canning currently. Cracker pear fig notes

And the rye pale ale was excellent as well. Earthy smokey and bright

I Sampled the stout that came highly suggested but it was a chocolate banana clove combo that didn't jive so well with the hop direction I was already headed in.

Definitely worth checking out if you are into some adventurous but yet palatable beer choices.

I had a chocolate banana stout from Thomas Creek a few years back.... it was damn good

Friend sent me pics from my favorite bar back in LA this morning. Wishing I was back there to take some of the 4x4 trails up to it. My brother said he is heading up there later today.

Pretty good main stream gose style ale by Sierra Nevada

The Vermont Connection came through for me over the holidays.
I got 32 of these:

That number is, sadly, way down.

Walking around after dinner downtown, I saw this on Deck at Ironside Brewery.
Hmmmm.....I'll need to investigate further.

nice.... Let me know if you want to trade any. That's one that my source has dried up on.

Man if only I could find a five hop I would have a nice lil consecutive run.

Sadly foothills has discontinued the IPA of the month program which provided support the local animal rescue shelter but they are doing a HOP of the month series this year highlighting different and obscure hops from around the globe

And tried a new one from white rabbit brewery in angier NC last night. Mad Hatta ibipa. Damn tasty

I'm game.
Never had any Pliny the Elder.
You going to be around for the Meet and Greet?

Had a few when my brother flew in for the weekend.

New one by Sierra Nevada...... good beer, not great, not bad just good.

The Pike Auld Acquaintances Hoppy Holiday Ale

This one had one hell of a nice taste to it. Highly recommended.

Its no secret that I think Grapefruit Sculpin was just about the best beer to finally hit the east coast last year. So I naturally had to do a taste test against the new Sammy Adams Rebel Grapefruit IPA. The Sculpin is still king as it still is a very hoppy beer but extremely refreshing at the same time.... a perfect blend. The Rebel was still pretty good but had much more of a tart grapefruit finish than the sculpin. Another plus for the rebel was its price.... $1.81 vs $2.49 for the singles.

I also grabbed a pineapple sculpin but haven't cracked it open yet.

Batch 15 IPA from Aslan Brewing. Damn good solid IPA and i'm sure it isn't the first but it is the first that I can remember as being an all organic IPA.

Rogue 6 hop IPA.... as usual a great beer from Rogue

12647490_10153478910482875_6772401335111066651_n.jpg

And lastly Even Keel Mango from Ballast point...... another very refreshing and smooth beer, something you could just drink all day long

Mmmmmmango. Haven't seen that one. Been sipping on the pineapple since the weekend. Good but I prefer the grapefruit or standard.

Got a lil super bowl stash brewing here
