Advice from the Doctor, I just ordered the Airtex AW9493 from RockAuto.

What's the part number you are looking for? I am not familiar with the 77's but there still looks to be new water pumps from Aisin without oil coolers.

Would this work? http://www.fjparts.com/water-pump-77-80-fj4-55-wo-oil-cooler-wfan-clutch-aisin-p-498.html

Is so, take a look at http://aisinaftermarket.com/uploads/rh4yebzy_CoolingCatalog2013.pdf specifically around page 100 for part number cross reference. The 16100-61071 cross references to Aisin WPT-063 which is available in lots of places, including Amazon.

http://www.amazon.com/Aisin-WPT-063-Engine-Water-Pump/dp/B008EEZ75M

Of course, if I have the wrong part number then we need to keep looking. What I found interesting is the precautions/warning on page IV (9) about not spinning the pump while dry. It's something I certainly didn't know.

I hope this may help a bit.

Thanks Geoff....Noted for reference.

I know that the thermostat housing also varies depending on whether there is an oil cooler. Does anyone know what factors determine the presence of an oil cooler? Was it an option at the time, or is it emissions driven? For example, would all CA trucks have an oil cooler? (Mine has it).

Aw, Rick!! To quote Mike, "That sucks!!".

Are you sure the pump failed and not the ACC installation of it? Could be that they didn't get the gasket down good... also, those pumps have 3-4 large Phillips screws... if you unscrew them, there's a gasket behind the plate... it's supposed to be installed correctly at the factory... but, I had to replace that gasket before too.

So you know... I installed a new pump and flushed and replaced coolant and, within a week, it started leaking... that's when I found the defective gasket behind the plate.

I feel your pain!!

Sorry for the bad luck.

For what it's worth we but Aisin oil cooler pumps and weld the oil cooler port shut. Much more reliable than a cap which will degrade over time.

Yes. "Oil cooler pump" = water pump for 2F with oil cooler.

It is what it is.....What sucks even more, there are two small oil leaks, one in the front of the oil pan and one in the rear of the oil pan. My rig's original 2F had some small leaks, but never hit the floor of my basement in over a years time. Sad to say, my new 2F has dropped several oil spots already just over three weeks time......

Understood about the cap, thus the new Airtex WP9493 water pump I've ordered from RockAuto.

Danny,
From the looks of it, it appears the seals have gone bad on the water pump shaft. Hence the radiator fluid in the pulley.

What really sinks, is my new 2F is leaking oil!............Go figure!.......

The only correct way to fix that is drop the pan and reinstall it... Maybe a new gasket...

It's a pain... You might be able to get by for now by slathering Red
RTV over the ends. I was able to do that and make it last until my next oil change.

... Or take it back to ACC..

Dang Rick! I hate hearing this! I, along with many here on MUD can relate to your frustration. :bang:

At least its an easy fix! :)

Good luck, and thanks again for the dizzy!

Nothing like draining the radiator three times in five weeks. Once for the engine and new radiator install. Second time to purge the system of rusty antifreeze after 50 miles on the rebuilt 2F. And now, the third time, to install a new water pump.

Not to mention, looks like I'll be draining the oil and dropping the pan before too long! I hate oil drops on my basement floor!

Did the dizzy check out for you? I figured by getting that to you pro-bono, I was paying it forward for some "Good Cruiser Karma"....This is what I get for thinking.

Rick, Sorry to hear about all the leaks! Does anyone take responsibility for the oil leak? i.e. your engine builder, or installer
I just can't believe there's an engine oil leak, was there an engine warranty?

After I installed all the gaskets and seals on my engine I had to re torque everything after the first hundred miles, did you try re torquing yet?

Funny, the morning after I brought my 40 home from the install, there was a spot of oil my basement floor. I crawled under my rig, and saw a few spots. I wiped them off, and figured it was just from where the installer may have spilled some oil. Much to my shagrin, that isn't the case.

ACC didn't mention about re-torquing any bolts. They told me to have the engine builder reset the valves after 500 miles. So I called the engine builder, he said he had no way of adjusting valves while the engine is in the rig. Looks like if I want the engine builder to reset the valves, I'll have to remove the engine and take it to him.

As much forethought as I tried to put into this build, asking for the best parts and shops to do the work, I wouldn't have figured this.

Life goes on!

A valve adjustment is an easy job in the truck. Just pull the valve cover and follow the directions in the FSM.
