Similar to South America in some respects, lets call it Southern Africa. Cold salty windy West coast and warm wet tropical East coast. the interior is a lot better, but then these boys get used here and the leasure vehicles often see coastal use.
I punchased mine from a little old man in Johannesburg (3000m ASL), who never went to the coast and only traveled to the warm dry Kalahari desert.. Yeah right.
One of thew bigest problems her is the windscreen replacement industry who dont do things properly and start the cycle , by reusing seals and scraping the protective coating by using the wrong tools

Exactly. Happens on many 60 and 80 series here as well.

Cheers

That's a lot of time consuming work. You must be very patient.

Alright, a bit more content for today.

Taking some effort to dissect the top of the a-pillar but I nearly have it done. You can see the new panels are going to fit excellent. I have the patch panel made for the cowl where the a-pillar meets it, rotten area at the edge of the cowl pictured earlier. We also got the hood support bucket mostly rebuilt today. So once I get the top of the a-pillar ready it will all go together fairly quickly.

These are 78 parts so the holes for bolting front fender on don’t match the 75 cowl. That is good though because the truck is running a 78 wide nose. We have a piece made to correct the holes on the cowl side. We also removed a bracket from the big cowl piece you see, added a bolt and a bracket from the old panel. As a result we now have a 78 cowl kick panel with provisions for the 75 plastic kick panel and plenty of mounting locations for relays, ecm, ecu, ect.

Cheers

Chassis side we have the steering all installed. Tony supplied it so I am not sure where it came from but it is nice beefy dom tube. Rear shafts are installed. Wits End abs delete on front axle.

We have drive flanges coming Monday morning and rear rotors are being turned. So we will be getting the brakes all done Monday and putting wheels on the chassis. :)

Oh ya, sway bars are painted and ready to go too.

Cheers

After much effort yesterday afternoon and this morning I got the last chunk of the a-pillar out. It just didn’t want to come out but persistence won.

The A-pillar is just tossed up into place here, got some more clean up work to do before final fitment. You get the idea though.

Yes, Toyota. Not reproduction, OEM. Hence going through the effort to fit original quality parts. ;)

I didn’t have much time for the build today but I was able to do a bit of clean up and get the panels test fitted one last time before welding.

Got some more work on the body done today.

These two areas were a bit mangled after getting out the pillar. Got some holes welded up, ground back and straightened up.

This being a 78 panel it had a bunch of holes in it not found on a 75. So I welded up nine holes in it and ground them back. Both sides pictured.

The rain gutter is a long piece here, I am not replacing the whole piece, only what I need to so I got that prepped as well.

So @TonyP and myself have not been able to figure out why the 78 pillar has this recess.

Maybe a different roof that comes down farther to overlap. Or the bracket for mounting the snorkel is recessed?

Regardless we decided to cap it so it is like a 75. So I repurposed some of the original pillar.

Yes I still need to drill holes in it for the snorkel mount.

Actually, that’s an older model without the recess in the pillars.

If you look at a brand new Troopy you’ll see the recess on both sides, covered by a plastic piece. And the newer OEM snorkel looks like it has a lower mount bracket. There’s some sort of accessory that must use both sides... and then sometimes it just gets used for snorkel on passenger side.

Why cover it instead of adapting your snorkel bracket to utilIze the captured nuts?

We are using the captive nuts, I am drilling the holes from the backside though once all done welding on the cap. By looking at EPC I was pretty sure it was for the snorkel bracket.

The truck is running a snorkel but not a factory, that would be a bit to restrictive for the 6.2L v8. ;)

Cheers

I really need to get an OEM snorkel cap.

tech question: Does the factory snorkel tops allow enough air for that V8? I assume it’s plenty for the B and H series turbo diesels.
