Doubtful on the v8. Tony has one in mind, pretty sure it is a 4” diameter.

The v8 has had a few upgrades during the rebuild process. It should easily be putting out over 450hp. More on that in the coming weeks when it is back in our shop. Really excited to mount up the power train though in the chassis. ;)

Cheers

I really need to get an OEM snorkel cap.

tech question: Does the factory snorkel tops allow enough air for that V8? I assume it’s plenty for the B and H series turbo diesels.

Definitely not. After swaps on other rigs, I've heard of snorkel stock tubes collapsing (think of a straw when you block one end) due to lack of flow.

Safari makes a 4 inch plastic snorkel or JMAX makes a stainless 4 inch tube that partially recesses into the fender for clearance.

Those safari look great in their fitment. The stainless look a little off to me. I think it always makes me worry when I see that edge protector all along the (large) cut out area of the fender. From a not wanting to cut it up and not wanting to induce a new spot for rust!

Gutter rail spot welded on pillar.

I like this stuff, it is quality and the same color Toyota used.

Little bit of sealing before installing the pillar.

I believe SEM might actually be OEM supplier, Ian.

@Clutchee might have some more insight on it though.

Glad to see this bit of effort in this process. SEM isn’t a Toyota OEM direct supplier but the use of sealer in keeping with OEM process is great.

Got it all cleaned up inside this cavity on the cowl, seam sealed inside there and then weld through primer.

Made this wiring harness tab and spot welded it on.

Made our piece for the cowl here where it meets the fenders. Welded on and cleaned up.

Nice. It's a shame all that work won't show when you are done.

I think 3.5x the power and 2.5x the torque and nearly half the weight of it's previous motor should do adequately.

"But it's not a Toyota, Diesel, Manual, ect..." 🤷‍♂️

If I hate it, maybe I'll try a 6BT...
Doubtful though.

As arguably a Toyota purist I find no fault with your powertrain choice. I love a good V8 more than most.

The only pitfall is one of correct parts acquisition down the road. You may have already made provisions for this so please forgive me if I am being redundant.
You should create your own parts catalog for the non-standard stuff so you know where to go and what to ask for. I would go so far as to record the VIN of the donor vehicle(s) so that you can provide it to any future drone that can't look a sparkplug up without it.
