And back on the frame ready to put the tub back on!

Splicing the electrical and getting the carb, distributor and everything vacuum related to work together from here are some of the next challenges.

Hung the body from the rafters, rolled the frame under, and sloooooly got it all bolted on!
Wow... tires fit perfectly in the wheel wells!

Psychology it's a different thing all the sudden, with most of the parts of the vehicle attached to each other it's now like working on a vehicle rather than working on a bunch of parts. 🤔

Basically the frame off part of this frame off build is over and I'm happy with that.

Had a couple half days to get back on the project.

Went to install my new clutch slave cylinder and realized I had installed my clutch fork on the wrong side......had to pull the tranny and transmission and reinstall it......again. Luckily had my broom and brick to help with the reinstall.

It's nice because we do it twice!

Was hoping I could cut and reuse my transmission tunnel but looks like it will also require a spacer or something to clear the four speed.

Soldered in a new inline fuse under the hood vent cover that needed replacing that I found as I as I was cleaning things up under the dash.

Did some CLR and fluid film work on the fenders and attached the passenger side to start fitting and affixing things there.

Finishing up plumbing the coolent and heating lines as well as starting on the gas and break lines. Still some some various electrical which I am actually looking forward to because it will be a change in materials and tools.

I truly think I can see the light at the other end of the rabbit hole!

Ok so what's it been......bout half a year , something must have happened on this project since then.

Can't remember if I mentioned it but I brought my harmonic balancer to the sandblaster with a bunch of other stuff and when I got it back it was in two pieces. Need to thank Dale Manufacturing who rebounded the two which got me over that hurdle! If you ever need a harmonic balancer rebounded I highly recommend him!

Next up was brake lines, never did this before but actually enjoyed this portion of the work.

Bought some small brackets from Rough stuff and had to modify them to accept the clip ends of the soft rubber lines from the frame to the axels. Think I'll be needing to get extended flexible lines because of the lift...

Brake work naturally led to electrical, got started stripping out the connectors and wires I will reuse from the 60 harness.

This is not as fun. ☹️

Turned out nice I think.

Lubed and shimmed everything up right, now the latch works better than it ever has for me. Gotta do the other hinges and latches, they still creak and bind everytime.

Bought this rear seat some time ago and finally got around to making up a mounting plate that attaches to the body mount bolt so only needed to drill two new holes to mount the latch. Going to need a few more holes for seat belts and such but really don't enjoy drilling new holes.

And this brings this build up to date.

Eventually going to need to do tranny hump and skid plate modification unless I can find different ones from other years that will clear the spit case, shifters and transmission from the 60?

Did the best I could to postpone the wiring. Easy distractions like the rear heater....thing can't run without a cleaned up rear heater.

Headers needed some love, hope this Eastwood high temp exhaust paint can take the heat.

PXL_20220129_204520413.MP.jpg

Even started thinking about fuel filter options.....and ran most the fuel line....

But couldn't put it off forever so....

...........finally got most my wiring squared away with a additional harness under the dash running the 83' equipment, connectors and wires. Still going to needs a bit more work but it's a solid base.

PXL_20220213_001640038.jpg

Relocated the coil to the fender.

PXL_20220214_025011004.jpg

Made a couple small adapter brackets to shift the air filter housing over about an inch to fit right on the City Racer carb and early intake manifold.

PXL_20220214_010354739.MP.jpg

Took forever to fit it but now it's nice and solid!

@60 40 This is such a cool build! I'm looking forward to seeing it on the road. Have you had it out of the garage yet? I'm curious to see the stance with the FJ60 axles, can't recall seeing a "stock" wheelbase build with the 60 series axles, very unique build. Love it. Hope you've made some progress and are close to or even have this thing on the road by now.

Hey @EWheeler,

Not yet out of the garage, still down the rabbit hole 🙂. Thanks for the reminder I have been wanting to update this thread.

Removed the City Racer carb and went back to the 83' 2F carb, plumbed in all the non smog vacuum lines.

Then modified the tranny hump.

Plenty more to do, surprisingly inserting most of a 1983 FJ60 in a 69' FJ40 takes time. Still learning the more "stock" way to get it done.

Cheers.

Ended up ordering the cable to linkage bellcranks from $pector, hoped they might send me a nice one....

Nope, was bent in so many ways I had to install it to figure out what had to be done to salvage it.

After much manipulation and one of my favorite rattle cans... hola!

@60 40 How is progress?
Well let's see what has happened on the Cruiser front in the last half a year?

Well the next couple things I had to deal with where the seating and parking break. Drilled new holes, mounted the seat further back on the slider and more holes on the slider for the lever actuated lock thing. Brought the seat back at least 4"!
