You have to admit that it's funny... Everyone s*** all over me when I asked about VNT
If you want a vnt, get a gt2359v off a european spec 1hd-fte and buy or make up a simple vnt controller. These turbos have vacuum controlled vnt setup.

I mean, I hear ya. But when I broached the subject of VNT just 2 pages back, I got a metric s***-ton of flack. But now Grimey at G-Tirbo says it, and it's like Jesus has risen from the dead.

Just because he's playing with it, doesn't mean A, it will be any good, and B, he will probably only work on VNT turbos for factory setups, not retrofit

just looked at the post. 1000nm by 1500rpm claimed (i don't trust his dyno figures). Wait and see I suppose if he can make it work reliably

Graeme had been exploring VNT's for a long time now. But much larger (and tougher) frame sizes than get talked about on here.

It can be done. But only with serious R&D budget. It's not a DIY prospect unless you want to get a stock GT2359V and run at slightly over stock power.

You talked about it, he's doing it.

Wonder how long the crank will last with torque like that so low.
I'd be more concerned about the turbo, he's had about 100 failures recently from insufficient bearing clearance, supposed to be 3 thou, somehow it ended up at 1... :poop:

Just remember this is the 'Gturbo alternative tech' thread, not the 'drag Gturbo's name through the mud' thread.
Haha yes...stay on target

Nope I still have the same opinion, if you don't have electronic or are prepared to have electronics running it don't bother .
And if you look on the FB page you will see the what I'm taking about turbine flow issues .
The vnt does bring the torque on quick but at the expense of turbine efficiency (torque drops of sooner)
The vnt one on Graeme dyno makes over 800nm over a 1300 -1400 wide power band

his wastegate option is doing that over a 1500 wide power band just the vnt does it lower in the rev range and comes on more aggressively which I don't think would be a good thing for bottom end life . All that torque available at low revs when oil pressure is at a minimum .

Interesting none the less

I wonder if doing a larger VNT turbo would slow it's response and spread out it's usable range? Alternatively, couldn't he reduce fueling available at lower RPM's to dull it's responsiveness?

Why de-tune just to have VNT when you could have a properly sized non-vnt turbo and a proper tune? Keep It Simple Stupid.
