Hey guys, I have a 78 with a SBC thrown in with stock cluster...do I need a Toyota temp sending unit for the block or a domestic one?

Thanks

I would think if your using the stock cluster and temp guage, you should use a stock sensor, but I could be wrrrr...wrrrrr

Stock sensor, with adaptor from your Toyota block.

i wouldn't bother buying an exspensive adapter to put your yota sensors in a chevy block.

the threads are very similar.

Get a brass male to female extension for a buck or two at your local hose/hydro shop. Put the extension into your block with plenty of teflon tape. then install your sensor with plenty of teflon tape.

Works like a charm.

I would not thread the yota sensor directy into the block.

use the stock F (or 2f in your case) oil sensor.

The one that screws into the block.

To get the readings on the gauge cluster you must use compatable sensors.

You could use the 2F sensors on any kind of engine, cummins, ford, chevy, mercedes, isuzu, chevy, you name it...if you can find a way to put the sensor into the correct port of the block it will tell your gauge cluster exatly what it needs to know in order to display a reading!!!

Excellent. That would also explain my non-existent oil reading. Damn....to the shopping site!!!!!

i posted this before like bikersmurf said use the stock sender and temp sender union adapter cheap from toyota if you don't have your orginal one.
no need to buy one from AA

if you kept your old engine ,you can pull out the temp union adapter from your toyota engine F or 2F and thread it into your chevy motor and use the stock dash temp guage also if you like

pic of toyota temp sender and toyota adapter that threads into your chevy head if it is not to new of a motor the two senders in the photo are the same .just one is new and the other is old

Would this work for the oil pressure sending unit as well?

ops

Would this work for the oil pressure sending unit as well?

Dont see why not

the key to the sensors is matching the sensor to the gauge ---the resistance range needs to be right. In theory it is possible to use an aftermarket as long as you know the specs for the toyota sensors range and get the same

yeah but prolly easier to either use the stock one or change out both the gauge and sensor with aftermarket ones

for me I like aftermarket gauges cause I like the number readings for everything vs hi---lo type readings
