Early fuel sender float replacement

Has anyone found a replacement float for early fuel senders?

If this is the brass one Jim AKA @Cruiser_Nerd had found one made of plastic. Believed it came McMaster Carr.

I have a roll of thin brass shim stock that's like 6" wide. I would just some and solder it into a tube or box with roughly the same volume as that one.

Instead of simply trying to replace the float which in all likelyhood is not going to happen, why not simply replace the whole sending unit especially because of the age of the other components.
