True... Or you could insure it in storage mode (Comprehensive coverage only) for ~$5 per month and it would all be covered anywhere...

Not much done to the 4 runner in the past few weeks. The BHW diesel Passat needed a timing belt and new clutch. 300 ft lbs of torque @1900 rpms is hard on a 228mm clutch. I got 3 years and some change out of this one. Made it 5 more months after starting to slip. I'm giving a 30 lbs flywheel and south bend organic/ceramic combo heavy duty daily clutch a try. Supplied by Matt at Whitbread performance. He makes some tdi adapter and upgrade items in the upper mid west. No yota adapters but some jeep adapters. He also supplied the tune/ECU mods on this Passat. Great guy.
I'll be comparing this 30 lbs flywheel to the 3.4 stock flywheel weight to see how the vibrations feel. If you want a tdi but want smooth you may want to use the extra heavy 3.0 or 3.4 flywheels the crazy doubler/crawler build guys use.
My Passat has liquid filled factory motor mounts vs the stock 22re ebay replacements on the 4runner. I'm not a sensitive vegetarian who doesn't like a diesel to feel like a diesel. Seems many VW owners are.

Note the factory beer holder the German engineers designed into the factory tdi Passat. This little beer holder is 100% designed for beer and not some part used on the gas model Passats

The "soft" engine mounts are probably the result of having gone too far after the early Ribbit diesels. Both of mine shook the dash like a dog shaittin peach seeds at idle.
Still got the Canadahoovian remfg'd 1.6 out of the 4 door. And the Shelby-Spearco turbo kit for it. I'm thinking a turbo diesel Sami on Mini axles with a W trans and a Marlin doubler needs to be built.....

The BHW came with a good 40 some odd lbs torque converter w/fluid and a balance shaft. Comfort was definitely a goal with the b5.5 Passat diesel. Before I deleted the egr you couldn't tell it has a diesel under the hood.
I'm running my torsion value on this motor at 1.5 for power. The 4 runner will be set about -1 to -1.25 to try to get some mpgs. Going less than -1.5 sacrifices too much low end torque in the VW so I doubt I'll like that in the heavy runner. I'll play with it and update as I get it on the road and make changes.

No luck with the windshield install today. Apparently I need a windshield with a black ceramic band on the outside diameter in order to delete the trim and put molding in it's place. The band keeps the sun's uv rays from hitting the urethane glue. Was informed without it shed start leaking in a year or two so now I'm on the hunt for a windshield the installer cannot get. Huge bummer. Have an appointment next wed with a glass supplier who says he thinks he has something. Fingers crossed. I didn't think this part of the build would be such an issue
I did get the boat washed/waxed and the inboard diesel fired. She's ready for launch. I also installed the passenger side towing air bag on the back of the excursion. Been looking at them for years but I lost my factory axle lift blocks w/jounce years ago when I upgraded to f350 front and rear springs w/4 inch block. This means I have no where on the axle to mount air bags for an excursion. Happened to be waking the in laws rental property where years ago a previous tenant got busted by the county for running a chop shop, found 2 air bags with mounts laying beside the garage. Had to drill 4 holes in the frame but they clear the factory rear AC lines by a hair. I have no idea what they came off of but bag part numbers are rated for 5k bed weight. Can't beat free. Hate knowing where they came from but the property has been empty now for years. After that rental experience they left it vacant.
So at least something worked out this week.

I had the windshield guy just fill the whole 'groove' with the sealant goop to delete the windshield trim on Patch. Seemed to work, at least for the 5-ish years that I had it after that.

This is what I wanted. I know there are uv rated urethanes but I have no idea if they make them for windshield glue.

Oh, I thot that you were referring to the glue IN the windshield. You're talking about the urethane holding the windshield INTO the truck. Yeah, that eventually oxidized on the surface and got so that you didn't want to touch it or it stained your hand black.
It never leaked in the time that I had it, but I do live in the Lower Left Coastal Desert so we don't get a lot of opportunity to test that.

No pic worthy updates. I have my rear bumper d rings and door mirrors installed now. I took the time to install sliders (drivers side only as of now) on the little lady's disco. Early birthday present. She's fallen out of her disco 2 or 3 times since it was lifted back in September. Sadly I was not there to witness it.
I'll have all of the stereo system minus subs and and sub amp by the end of the day so I'll likely work on that this weekend. My spare mud tire arrived but still waiting on the matching wheel. Once in I'll take it to the tire shop for balancing of all 5 tires and alignment. The carpet should be in beginning of next week too. Once that's done all I have left is the high side ac line, finish up my driver's door panel vinyl repair, get the subs/box/amp, and address the seats. I want to reupholster but my budget will be killed thanks fuel prices. I may just choose my best two seat covers for now and two foam sets and run cheap seat covers until lake season is over.

Full size matching spare and Pyle 6.5 wake board tower speakers pods installed. I wanted the 99 dollar pods, I'll likely be tossing the pyles for skar speakers but I've had good luck with hydras in the past so I'll give them a try first.

Ran out of time to use the heat gun. Progress will resume tomorrow.
Lay it out in the sun on a flat surface.
Can you pull the vehicle out in to the sun? Let it warm and form to your floors?

I will once I get the windshield and top installed. Weather was in the 90s all last week but the carpet was still in the box.
