coordinating getting my vehicle out to Tijeras, and a buddy has offered his help in the purchasing of parts; with luck ill have a parts list by tomorrow. fingers crossed it is just a hose/ part of heater system; rear heater was the only one that worked when I got it, and noticed yesterday morning that it wasnt blowing hot air, so there is most likely a correlation there. Bypassing it would be a quick and welcome solution as far as I am concerned if that is the problem area so long as no damage would be done

So how does the engine run? does it have any misfire? I have seen one HG fail completely at the rear, so it was leaking externally on the firewall and internally to cylinder #6 causing it to misfire.

I've been out of town camping and late to the party. Judging by the description "lots of water coming out of the rear of the engine", could mean one of two things (if the heater hose or PHH have been eliminated):

- a freeze plug in the block let go
or
- a freeze plug in the head let go

Attached is the pic of the rear freeze plug in the head and mine was leaking too. This is not a serviceable part so I used loctite and re-installed it.

This is discussed on post #46 in this thread: How to get a diesel freak and an anti 1FZFE freak in the same place?

Not sure if this will help trying to figure out the heater plumbing. It looks like a bypass is possible with a long piece of hose.

currently elbows deep in DS wheelwhell; PHH was the culprit.. fighting a constant tension clamp stuck on nipple on engine side; im just going to use the bypass method if I can ever get this damned clamp out; it is rotated to where one of the tension release tabs is all the way up where i don't want it to be..... rest of repair should go fairly quickly once i get this tab off!

Thanks for all the help, would post pics but my phone is AWOL

Use a dermel or dikes and cut it off if it is the cotter pin stick a pick in it and rip it out

It’s a pain in the ass for sure, but it sure beats doing a head gasket!!

This whole thing gave me anxiety. Glad it was PHH. Do the bypass and get back on the road.

Man oh man do I hate Toyota’s hose clamps. Threw every single one in the garbage.

I prefer the Toyota ones, light, compact, simple and effective. Often these are your friend for getting them.

I hate these heavy, bulky things, automatically toss them in the recycle bin and replace with Toyota type.

Excellent work amigo, the fix is a PITA but much better than the alternative. I can drive up to Emory's house with my 80 (after work) if you need to see something specific.

He’ll be good to go for sure. Flat safe place to work. Complete with canine companions and WiFi!:D

And beer. Clay is off with some abandoned metal tubing against the firewall. Thanks for all the help. Clay's a really nice guy with, what sounds to be, some awesome property north of Pie Town, south of Grants that's gnarly to get to and has a plethora of wild life. Says he makes some mean goat cheese, but it's not like I tasted it or anything, so we'll see;). See you around Clay :beer:

big ups to ALI and EMOTO; cruiser back up0 and running before i could even find time to cry about it.

FAITH in the ESSENTIAL DECENCY of your FELOW HUMAN BEINGS on this planet, will carry you more miles than any other mode of transport ever could.

Thanks to all muud'rs that pitched in with help and support; your kindnesses wil;l be returned as the universe intends. much love-

Clay

I hate to be the ignorant one in the bunch, but what is the PHH?
Pesky Heater Hose, it's buried below the intake manifold. It has been the cause of many issues, as it's often ignored until it blows.

Thank you. I guessed heater hose, but the "P" was throwing me a curve. :)

I knew it was pesky heater hose, but which hose in my drawing is it?
