Perhaps you should have not chosen to quote my comments if you did not want me think that your words were directed at me. Just because I have no time to care about internet bickering does not mean I will never respond to passive aggressive slights from out of the blue. You might want to rethink just who is trolling here.
You should go reread your first post and then look up the definition of passive aggressive. You have contributed nothing here but criticism of people you dont know. You have all the traits of a troll.

Just had mine (94) done (preventive) last fall. Machined head / valves all OEM new hardware and parts/ etc. = ~$6500. My head and block were in good shape and no other damage needing attention. 🤷‍♂️
Who did yours?

You can certainly justify 6-7K if you start looking for things to do just to make the most off of the job. If that is the job the customer wants, great! But if the rig is in good shape with no issues prior to a head gasket failure and the customer is not looking to engage in major work just because "it can be done now", I am not gonna bulk the job up just to make a little more off of it. I am gonna take care of the failure at hand, anything that contributed to the failure and any items found during inspection and repairs that might be actual pending failure points which the customer is unaware of and should reasonably be addressed at this point.

Anyone who wants to insinuate that I am less than a "professional" or that I am using substandard parts or doing a substandard job because I understand and care that my customers might not be made of money can **** right off.

Mark...
If only all shops ran like this..

Greg and Tim at Colorado Toyota CTR in Loveland and the head was machined in Denver at Gunn. 👍
Nice! They did a hg job and a bunch of other stuff on a buddies rig, they did good work.

Just my humble opinion if you can't do the work yourself:

1] TRUST the place doing the job and make sure their philosophy with stuff like OEM parts etc. are aligned with yours.
2] Get a detailed as possible upfront quote but thoroughly understand what MAY change up/down once the head is off. Lots of variables involved that become sorted as the project evolves.

Good luck!

If you do the work yourself you can get it done for under a grand. When I did mine I purchased the toyota head gasket kit. I don't remember the part number but it shouldn't be too hard to find. It came with everything but a couple of o-rings that you need for one of the coolant pipes. Mine didn't overheat fortunately. It was just blowing bubbles in the coolant reservior. When I had the level checked it was still within spec and didn't have to be decked. Followed OTRAMM's videos step by step and slapped it back together. Still going strong five years later. Got it done for around $500.

I didn't own headgasket with new oem parts replaced everything involved with cooling system and was nowhere near the prices talked here on this thread but I'm also a mechanic but feel free to send me 10k headgasket jobs I'll start doing one every 7 days as long as machine shop can keep up.

Ours are 6500 -7 kish for a fully monty HG . That's a rebuilt head ,Toyota gaskets, arp studs ,Cleaned and flowed injectors, Fuel filter, PHH , all fire wall heater hoses. all vacuum lines replaced .OEM water pump . OEM thermo. Cleaned egr and painted parts .. Guess I need to raise my pricing .

First off i do have to admit, that i not only have the tools, but the shop and experience to replace a blow head gasket myself,
Along with having a close friend who owns a automotive machine shop for any head machine work that needs done,

Just as an FYI i called my friend and ask him what the current cost is to vat my head, check head for flatness, deck it if needed, do a valve job, check the valve springs, replace any bad valve guides, install new Toyota valve seals, and check the valve/shim clearance, my cost is $550 for that service,

Cost for the Toyota gasket kit (04112-66036) to do this job is about $300 bucks, All in I'm thinking that with replacing head bolts, vacuum hoses, heater hoses, oil filter, oil, and coolant, plus some miscellaneous bits and pieces I'd be in this head gasket job for right around $1500 to $1800 bucks out the door,

That being said, i don't enjoy bending over fenders now a days as much as i use to due to my age,
But at an out of pocket cost of 6 to 7 grand to have a shop replace my head gasket, you can bet I'd still be willing to do this job myself in order to save thousands of bucks! YMMV
