It’s time to start cutting…

Have fun!

Not sure if you’re interested, but I’ve gone to a lot of trouble to come up with sliders for mine. Windows are being cut slightly over half length, and the rear one will slide forward.

I had to spend $12-1400 on all the weather stripping to get it done, and when I’m finished was planning on selling the rest (or kits) to anyone who might be interested in sliders.

Yes, tell me more! I want to do exactly what you did and I was trying to figure out how to do it. I want a large window like this in front of my factory vent window. I don’t want to put the OEM FJ43/BJ46 sliders and larger vent windows. They are too costly and the vent windows look goofy, plus I have my own that I’d rather reuse. There are good memories of trying to open those to look out as a kid. Ha.

I’m not quite ready to purchase anything for this part but knowing how you made those weather strips will help me know where to cut my top.

- Are the weather strips seamless? How did you make them?
- Can you send a closer picture of how the sliders work?
- What are you offering to make/sell and how much?

The picture I posted is the only picture I have so far, just to test fit all the stuff we got into the hole and see how it all fits, and to measure for the glass, which is being cut by a local shop. The picture doesn't show the seam but there is one. In fact, there are three components iirc (ok tangent time for you Mike; the reason I don't recall even though that test fit was only 10 days ago it because I don't have too! The book Personal Kanban that you recommended was on my porch a few days after you recommended it and I found out that while I'm very much wired that way already the book is helping me organize, with understood logic, how I'm wired and how to work better. I thrive on "I don't need to know I just need to know that I know or can learn, and let it go". Not that my minds uncluttered, but it's better. So thank you ver much for that, Mike.)

Anyway, there are three components and none of them are continuous, they are all cut to length. This is why it was so expensive, because I had to buy 50' rolls of stuff to cut mine from.

My plan is once I get my stuff together I will make a thread in here about sliders, detailing the parts, with pictures and how the windows work. The biggest hang up I see now is how the thick part wrinkled up in the tighter radiuses radius's radii? but will have to learn how to smooth that out. I have very little glass work experience.

So all I was going to sell was my leftovers, cut to whatever length someone needs them at whatever my cost was.

I will get some detailed pictures of the materials, and part numbers from the order so anyone can do them themselves, and post it in here for now if that's ok with you.

ETA; City Racer is the boss! They have a lot of stuff, seem to really care and know about FJ's, and I placed a huge order with them but unless they carry this now, it was sourced from some glass supply places. But if I could buy it from them I would.
More to come...

Links-and a correction, all this was about $836, not the 12-1400 I said earlier.

This is awesome information, Ditcherman! Thank you so much for posting this! I’ll review all of this information later tonight and I will ping you for more information later if this is the route I decide to go. It looks pretty trick!

I’m glad that you are enjoying the book! I’ve been at an executive coach for many years and it’s always great to hear what is working and what’s not. Sometimes I never know what is useful for folks because I don’t always hear back. Happy to chat off-line as well.

Looks really nice Mike... great job!
Thank you! I’ve really enjoyed doing the metalwork on this project. It’s kind of funny that I picked up the brake used to make one suspension piece and I thought that I would sell it straight after. Now I’m convinced that it’s a must have tool.

Im running those now, and couldn't be happier with them! Oh, and house projects can wait.... you have an anxious audience here!!! lol
Ha! I honestly wasn’t sure if anyone was watching anymore. Thanks for the encouragement!

I tore our main bathroom down to the studs while I was waiting for Cruiser parts. I’ve taken next week off to install the concrete board, tile and vanity, etc. I might need to sneak out to the garage for a few days if that radiator shows up 😅

I’m so used to seeing the Cruiser on tiny tires and these look huge. The picture doesn’t do it justice. The shape of the fenders work well with these tires. I’m very happy with how it has turned out.

I cant wait to see what these do to the Neighbors Driveway :steer:

I finally got a set of tires! I’m beat. It took me 2 hours to get those mounted on the wheels! The radiator should be here next week. I’m on pause for a bit while I finish some home projects.

I just swapped some Goodyears for some swampers on new-to-me beadlocks. Getting the Goodyears off the backside of the rims was a bugger. Like they were glued on. Swampers went on easy as pie. Go figure.

I used to have a set of swampers on this Cruiser and they made it look like a cartoon truck, which was the point. If I remember right, they must’ve been 35 X 15.5 on 12” wheels. I also had a set of Goodyear Tires, a few sets of BFG tires, and some off brand mud tires. I’m excited to try something new to me.

That Maxxis sticky Razr Tire that I installed last year as my spare was impossible to get on without a tire machine so I took these Mickey Thompson tires to Discount tire, which was sort of a mistake. After 2 1/2 hours, they asked me to come back and show them how to install the tire on the wheel and then they told me that they couldn’t work with beadlocks. I had them pop the tires on the wheels anyway and I brought them home to fasten down the beadlock ring and that’s what took me two hours. I had a hell of a time getting the outer bead to seat around the locking ring lip on the wheel.

I’m glad that is over! Well, for now anyway. I have to open them up eventually to put the balancing beads inside since I am planning to drive this on the highway, but I didn’t want to do that now as I’m not at a point where I’m able to drive it fast enough for those beats to stick in the right place. Maybe I would just have 4Wheel parts put those in. Lol.

Okay Dennis and others, I launched it in 2nd gear and I was pretty sure that was going to be the end of me and the Cruiser given that I didn’t have a roll cage, seat belts or seats for that matter.

It chirped for a slight moment and launched like a rocket. The front end lifted up so fast and high that it felt like a drag car about to catch air, or a small airplane preparing for lift off. I thought for sure that I was going to lift, or maybe it did. It throws those tires around like they are stock. None of this was caught on camera. We don’t need evidence.

When it peeled out the rear axle hooked like it was solid; no jumps, shutters or any kind of wrap that I could feel. It simply hooked up and took off. Wow. What a difference. This thing has NEVER felt that smooth and hooked. I was holding on for dear life as I kept throttling (yeah, I couldn’t help it). It came down smoothly and straight when I decelerated, which was a pleasant surprise. It used to jump around a bit when I (theoretically) did that sort of thing with it, but not anymore.

I need seat belts.

Looks mean. This is great. You are getting ready to really light up the neighbors driveway. 🤩.
