I have also been reading up on some replacement seats for the cruiser.
I have heard some good things about the IPOR seats, anyone have any personal opinions on them?
Or any other comfortable seat swaps good for wheeling.

I also remember seeing someone install a snorkel with a 90 degree bend in the firewall of their truck and had it come out right in front of the windshield on the passenger side.
Anyone else remember that? or have pictures?

I was thinking about doing this due to the fact that I don't have a ton of space under the hood.

I think I saw a video on youtube a while back and a guy had a cummins or other big diesel in a mud hole. He had exhaust and snorkel coming out of the top like that I think. I'll hunt sometime and see if I can find it.

I think you guys are thinking of the burgundy FJ60 with the 2H and the hood stack.
I might have been the one to post that.

This was another build, or just something I must have seen either here or somewhere on the interweb.
It look like a 3" pipe that was going through the passenger side of the firewall and up through by the windshield.

It looked like a pretty sweet idea and it was different than the typical through the fender snorkel that everyone has nowadays.

No real updates for the truck unfortunately, the shop has no power as a result of that hurricane that just came through.

I did get the rear shocks today but I will wait to install them until after I get the anti-wrap bar in.

At work I came up with a list of things to do to get the truck drivable.
It is a bit longer than I would like it to be but hopefully the power will come on soon and I will be able to get some things crossed off.

Things to do:

Install fuel tank (still waiting to get it back)
Box rear framerails
[STRIKE]Anti-wrap[/STRIKE] bar
Rear shocks
Rear brake lines
Clutch line
Modify transmission crossmember to clear front driveshaft
Install front driveshaft
Change fuel filter and install fuel lines
[STRIKE]Intake[/STRIKE]
Exhaust
Turbo Piping
Hood struts and reinstall hood
Change oil and check fluids
Tranfercase linkages
Remove E-brake cable
Trim driver side fender
Install bumpstops
Install limit straps

I think that is everything, but if there is anything I missed please let me know.

I decided to tackle the intake today.
I was thinking about doing some sort of snorkel system, but for the time being I have decided on just routing the intake to a more open part of the engine bay.

Here was my first attempt at modifying the stock intake:



I noticed that it wouldn't let the hood come all the way down so I came up with this:



4" PVC isn't the classiest of tubing but it is inexpensive and gets the job done.
That and the fact that it was the perfect size to slip into the stock rubber connection off of the turbo.
I will need to make some sort of heat shield to prevent the intake air from getting heated up by the exhaust.
I might make a box for the filter that way if I do make the snorkel down the line half the work is done already.

Took a picture of the new rear shocks and also took some pictures of the truck with the intercooler and light bezels in place.



I will get those shocks installed after getting the traction bar completed. I will probably grab some limit straps too just in case.

I also wanted to see what the truck would like with the intercooler installed. If I install it I won't be able to reinstall the grille, but I think it looks pretty good without it.





I do really need to get that last fender trimmed and tire mounted.

You'll need the grill man, it looks funky without.

There has to be a way to keep the intercooler with the grill. There has to.

I like the look of the intercooler with the way your bumper is built. Kind of fits the frame. Maybe you can fab some sheet metal to go around your bezels to finish out to the intercooler.

I don't have my snorkel plumbed to the intake any more (yet) but my filter sits right where the snorkel comes through the fender. I assume that at speed I do get a little bit of cool air boost from it. There is also a a place that has fairly inexpensive intake tubing like cobra heads that I have looked at to try to make that work. www.intaketubing.com I think.

Dude! You are the king of fab, fab a custom grill. Or, fab custom brackets to make your grill work. Not that it doesn't look good that way (not that it looks great), but you need something between that intercooler and rocks and things.

Yeah, thinking about it, I do need something to protect it from branches.

I will probably get some flat stock and perforated steel to make some sort of grille.
I will most likely reincorporate the stock toyota emblem too.

I started on the Anti-wrap bar tonight.
I got the shackle mounted on my transfercase crossmember, and have the mounts welded to the axle as well.

No pictures of that though due to the fact that under the truck is pretty dark and all I had was my cell phone for pics.

What I do have pictures of is the bushing holder that will be used to mount the bar to the axle.
Most people would feel comfortable just welding these up like so, and running them as is.



I decided I wanted something a little bit stronger:



I will finish up the anti-wrap bar as soon as I can find someone to help me set the angle of the shackle.
Then once I have the lower bar all tacked into place I will finish it off with the upper part of the bar and some more gussets.

More work was done on the anti-wrap setup.

I matched the angle of the shackle on the frame to the pinion angle and burned in the lower length of the bar.
I was stalling out the drill press in the shop drilling the 7/8th holes for rosette welds to mate the 2" .250" wall square tube stock to the 1.5" dia .250" wall round tube.

Here is what the bar looks like at this point.
This traction bar should be plenty strong and hold up to quite a bit of abuse.



Here is what it will look like once I tie the other bar into the setup.

I got a few more hours in the shop today and finished up the anti-wrap bar.

re: anti-wrap, Why that material change from square stock to round? Why not just make the whole thing out of the square tube?

Thanks, I feel like I'm dragging it out though.

The reason for the material switch was due to availability.
I did not have enough square tube or round tube available to make it wholly out of one.
The threaded bung I had for the Heim also fit the ID of the tube.
I honestly would have liked to have made it all out of round tube so it looked better, but at this point I am thinking only of utility and availability.
I want this thing drivable so bad.


On another note, I just called the shop where I had dropped off my gas tank.
Apparently they thought it was a good idea to wait 5 weeks before letting me know my tank is in pretty bad shape.

Now I have to either:

Find another tank locally to swap in.
Buy the super $$$ MAF extended range tank.
Or have one custom made.

I have been thinking about making a custom one.
Generic fuel cells would be a bit small, and they wouldn't fit great under the truck.

Glad to hear you are enjoying the build.
Hopefully I will be able to get some great pix when its done. I also plan on picking up a GoPro and will be making some mounts for it too.

Also I just remembered the FJ60's had a recall on their tanks. I might Qualify. I will call tomorrow to check that out.
