Finished prepping, priming, and painting the new axle. Then I drank a beer.....

Got one Covid project done. I had to order a new crank shaft oil seal. The newer old stock I got first time around was not big enough external diameter. Went on ebay and bought an older new old stock seal in an 80's era box and it fit like a charm. Same exact part number as the one I got from Jack's Small Engine but the ebay one fit perfect.

Fun project.

I finally got my 40 parts shipment in. They had been waiting on shipping for a week trying to get another 6 wheel cylinder bolts in. They still didn't get them in but they shipped the rest anyway. Got the two rear axle hard lines bent up, flared and attached. Shoes back on with new hold pins and springs and even got all new rubber plugs which are amazingly still available. I bled the brakes with the motive bleeder. I went to start the 40 for a test drive and I get a loud whoosh in the cab coming from the booster. 3-4 pumps and the pedal firms up. If I let off the pedal and a few seconds later I get the whoosh again. Is that a telltale sign of a bad booster or is there a valve or hose I should check before heading down that path?

Finally got around to finishing the build on my big battery box. Ready for that natural disaster now.

Can't work on the FJ40 because a family of Carolina wrens set-up a nursery right next to the truck in my carport. The nest is at eye level right next to where I need to be working. They also used my telescopic radio antenna mast as a side support so I can't use that either until the little ones fly away.

Wren eggs--yum.

Wren eggs--yum.
They've already hatched, you can see the downy heads and tiny beaks if you look closely. Had I molested the eggs, I'd be weathering the pandemic on a park bench somewhere and eating pigeons.

I almost had a previous Relic Run ruined when the birds that nested between my license plate (on the swingout) and the rear door waited until two days before it to finally leave the nest for good! That’s also a popular place on my 80. They also love inside the front bumper on top of the hidden winch control box on Sarah’s 450. Every. Freaking. Year.

But...we’ve been home and active so much this year that they only ever even started with hers. Got it outta there on day two! Those basbirds work fast.

I’ve also noticed that the cardinals around here love to fight themselves in the side view mirrors. It’s fun to watch but has resulted in more than one broken beak (but only a single broken mirror). Damn things will go 20 minutes on, 5 minutes off for hours. Never seen such craziness.

Repaired an old Sears oilless compressor that stopped compressing. Surprisingly easy once I got the replacement parts.

Next is the Echo weed trimmer carb rebuild. Not bad for 17 years of use. Just waiting on parts.

Resurrection work to continue on the '40 once the weather warms enough.

Man, that blows!

All they took was the saw? That’s odd that they didn’t take anything else.

Somebody knew it was there.
