No news yet from the filter guy.

He blew me off yesterday and if I don't hear back from him by my Monday evening, I may (or I might go ahead and) contact Denso directly and see if I can become their dealer who carries only one make of their filter. :D

If I can find their phone number on their site I would give them a call. (I just looked and it's not there:rolleyes:  )

vcheng,

I TOTALLY understand where you are coming from.
I do want to emphasize that I AM trying to get either 90915-20004 (TOYOTA) or the other identical filter from Denso (both made by Denso, in Japan).

I just found another possibility and have shot them an e-mail.

Not that it makes any difference but the sticker I see below says that the -20004 filter is a substitute for (supercedes?) the "90915-03005" and "90915-20002" filters.

I just re-checked semilin's pic and that the box seems identical.
I got this pic from another guy who'se selling a case of them. So these should be the exact ones that I would be getting IF I got any.

If you could get MAF or SOR, Luxury, or whoever for cheaper, then that would be cool and I would be OK with that! Or if you can write to Denso, USA and let them know that there's demand, that would be alright, too.

Hopefully I'll have an update sometime soon.

Best,

Mot

Update (not much of one though):

I've just got off the phone with Denso inquiring about the possibility of me/my carrying their filter(s).

They'll get back to me and let me know whether it can be purchased direct from them or I would have to purchase them through Toyota Parts Dealer Dept. (Toyota Buhin Kyohan).

Just an F.Y.I.

MOT: Thanks for understanding and for trying. I'll keep checking here and stick with you until you have a final answer rather than looking elsewhere. If there's anything I can do please let me know here or PM me.

No dice with Denso; I cannot buy them direct from them, but through Toyota's parts channel.

Also no dice with the filter guy.
I think his product was probably compatible for the OEM/Denso filter, but not the exact filter we are after.

But I have located another dealer who is willing to cut as good of a deal as the first guy and it was his picture I posted above, so we know it's exactly what we need.

Anyway, his price is a bit more but is willing to ship them to me for free, so the end cost is pretty much a wash.

Let me know if anyone other than vcheng is interested.

So Mot, can you clarify what the cost to consumer is after all is done? Thanks Man!

turbo,

The cost(s) will be the same as what I had stated earlier on Page 3 of this thread like (copied: with total cost for each case added) below:

1 case (10 filters): $150US, or $15/filter, including shipping to your door (slowboat).

2 cases: $14.50/filter ($290 total, including shipping)
3 cases: $14.00/filter ($420)
4 cases: $13.50/filter ($540)
5 cases: $13.00/filter ($650)
6 cases: $12.50/filter ($750)
7 cases: $12.00/filter ($840)
8 cases: $11.50/filter ($920)
9 cases: $11.00/filter ($990)*

All prices include shipping via slowboat (upto around two months) to your door and/but does not include the customs charges/duty which I have no idea how much they would charge.

8 cases were the most I "should" be able to fit per shipment because of the weight limit the postal service puts on their slowboat (and regular air) shipping (30 kgs).

It might possibly be 7 cases and a change, depends on how (much) padding I add.

*If each case weighs 7lbs as one lister PM-ed me, then I might even be able to squeeze 9 cases in (again depending on the box and the final padding added).

All of the weight/shipping costs (1-8 cases) were estimated by what was given to me by Rick's before and after turd measurement of the box, and the 9 caser was by the 7lbs estimate which I've just done. So, and obviously the final outcome might vary depending on how much exactly the boxed cases/filters weigh.

Again, these numbers are for slowboat and IF you feel so inclined as to get them quicker (less than a week, compared to upto around eight weeks), then please inquire. However, my quick (and probably not "accurate" since it's approaching 3:30 in the morning here:crybaby: :D) calculation told me that I should be able to send 9 boxes, via express mail for $14/filter.

Anyway, let me know if I can help any of you!

Yours,

Mot

My bad!
I was looking at a wrong column for mailing for express shipping.:D

For express mailing 9 cases, it'll be $13.50/filter and not $14. So the grand total for express mailing them would be $1,215.

BTW, I've just quoted the express-mailing cost of $17.50/filter ($175 total) for a case, to a member.

F.I.Y.

go to bed MOT!

When you wake up can you give your FOB Japan price? when i was thinking of crusher or g&S i was assuming you would just have them shipped direct from your seller to his shipper, who would just toss them in the next vehicle/crate heading over here. by eliminating the ocean shipping costs completely maybe there is enough for you and the vendor at this end and it will still be cheaper?

Don't tell me what to do, Buster! :D

I know what SOB means, but FOB... I've seen it when I was checking into exporting vehicles, but never found out exactly what it meant. ;)

Is it the total cost arrived at the shipper? (The filters' cost, my take, shipping to the place where those guys keep their rigs before getting sent off?)

Anyway, I've done a quick search on the USPS service's site and sending a box weighing 7lbs will cost anywere between $17.40(US: Surface 4-6 weeks) and $53.75(Express 2-3 days).

And I had calculated my slowboat shipping price for 1 case to be 3,450 or $30.50, so I guess the saving is there, but that is also a cost that does not reflect the vendor's profit for carrying/selling them. I kind of hope they don't decide to get into the little stuff like this so I might be able to offer them to some of you guys and make a few $. But if they do, then oh well, it won't be the first/last time and I will survive! :crybaby: ;) Besides, businesses do exist to maximize profits! :)

Seriously, if you can get them cheaper somewhere by another means, you should do that as I would if I were price conscious. And I would still sell you a little odds and ends gadgets. ;)

Don't worry, Bud!

I fell asleep trying to put my kids to sleep after reading them the Golden Goose story. So it's not like I've stayed up all night or anything.

I might as well stay up now, eh?

Maybe not!

fob = free on board = the price delivered to a certain specified spot. so yes you are right. i was looking for your price to deliver boxes of filters to a parts/vehicle exporter somewhere in japan to toss in a crate/back of a cruiser.

if $30.50 a case in shipping is avoided, that means the price comes down $3.05/filter so does that mean your price is $8/filter delivered to the vehicle exporter for 9 cases?

if so, tack a buck on for the guy at this end and he gets $900 for providing the freight, the hassle of clearing customs and shipping. that helps offset his shipping costs on the parts/vehicle big time.

Which means $90/case of ten plus shipping and customs duties? am i right?

if so, that price is starting to sound much more reasonable.

Don't know about anybody else, but I'm in for 5 cases depending on MOT's prices here.

PM sent to MOT.

VCheng.

The shipping cost per case/filter goes down as I send more case/weight just because of the charges at the post office goes down per pound if I send more weight. So it costs about $30.50 for the first case, but it does not cost $274.50 to send 9 cases.

I'm a little dense at times so you kind of lost me there. But if any of the importers want to contact me and try to work something out that is OK by me. I feel that they probably can have wherever they are getting the vehicles/parts from to do it for them for cheaper than I can though.

Anyway, I'm goint to assist vcheng with getting his five cases and see how it goes. I will post pics of the actual filter when I receive them, as well as the actual shipping cost after packing them.

Mot ;)

If anybody else is interested in joinging in, please let both me and MOT know. I can resend any cases thus added to any fellow IH8MUDder.

There may be an additonal customs/postage cost, but it should be relatively small. However, I will not add anything to the true landed cost.
