I will say here, that for anybody as crazy as me to want these filters, this was the best thing I could find. Trust me, I did my homework, and can say the MOT appears to be the best source for these filters.

(of course I may be premature in saying this, since I have less money in my bank and no filters in my garage yet, but I think it will happen) :)

I went shopping for a good box for the nine cases of filters.

One was almost perfect, but about 1/4 inch too short.:crybaby:
There was another one that could fit all of them, but left too much room and I didn't want to have the cases/filters shift around while being shipped.

So... I ran to the same place that I had boxes custom-made for the grab bars and told them what I needed now.

I wanted something sturdy enough (double-layer) which would withstand the slowboat shipping to the US.

ANYWAY... long story short.
In order for me to make them I needed a minimum run of 32 boxes and 64 pads made for them. But I just wanted to make sure that the filters get wherever they are going w/o any damage.

So now I'll need you to order about 2,800 more filters so I can use all of the boxes and the pads.

Since I could not make it there until this afternoon, the boxes wouldn't be ready until next Tuesday afternoon.

Anyway, just wanted to give you an update.

I am crazy enough to get a hundred filters, but not 2800! :) Well may be after a few stiff drinks on a Friday night ;)

Seriously though, I am sure that you will pack them appropriately, and for that I am appreciative.

PS: For all those who sent me a PM, I will keep everybody updated on this thread, just like MOT.

It looks like the cost per filter will be about $13.50 for express air (for 9 cases), compared to $11.00 for the slowboat.

Not sure if the difference is significant ($2.50/filter more or $25 more/case of 10).

vcheng, I'll PM you the exact numbers later.

Mot

I'll wait for the exact figures for the Express Air, but at that difference, I think let's go with the Express Air shipping. We can talk offline via PM for the arrangements.

can't you just cut down the oversized box and tape it up??

at $11.00 landed in the us, I'd be up for a case so if you get into a second shipment keep that in mind.

At 25.00/case to get them here a little faster doesn't seem worth it to me. If you're out of filters and need to do an oil change between now and when the boat arrives use the OEM large filter for that 1 time or paypal me for 1 filter, as I've got 8, if that solution will cost you some sleep.

I just got up and am gonna try to go riding/cycling for a couple of hours. I'll try PM-ing you in the next couple of minutes before I leave.

I'm sure I could, but I don't want to chance it and have the box get all mashed/torn up, not to mention any of the filters damaged for. I would rather spend a little extra (if any at all, trust me) than the store-bought boxes to increase the chances of the filters arriving safe and sound.

I will!
But instead, why don't you orgainze a group buy with your local 80/450, 100/470, GX/LS, FJC enthusiasts or something. :grinpimp:

I'm afraid that you have to work that out with vcheng, as he's already paid me for slowboating eight cases and is trying to determine if he wants to slowboat those with an extra case or express them.

I would have worried a little more if I were not going with a custom-made box which would be perfect for nine cases (doulbe-layer, plus cushion/pads at the top and bottom). So decision to go whether sea or air is purely time-dependent; if you are in a
hurry for any reason and can afford it, then go with air, but if you are not in a hurry, then go with the slowboat. But you didn't need me to tell you that! ;p

Seriously, I hope you guys can work out a good solution!

So it went today, via express air to vcheng in NY.

The shipping weight was 28.4kgs and it was HEAVY (for me, anyway:flipoff2: ).

I'm hoping that it would get there by Monday, but more importantly, I hope it gets there undamaged.

We'll see what happens!

You better not ask me to post how I do things because you'll never get the Cliff Note's version of it. :D

MOT:

That looks like a quality packing job. Many thanks for going the extra mile. I look forward to getting the package in good condition.

I though I was the only one with a bad OCD (obssesive-compulsive disorder), but I see that this disorder is hared by many on ih8mud! :)

Update:

The filters are here. Mot did an absolutely wonderful job in packing them and shipping them express air.

My landed cost is just under $15 per filter. I can check with the post office what shipping to a mainland US address would be over the weekend for a case of 10 filters. The disadvantage is oviously that the cost of the filters has shipping costs added twice. If anybody has a better system in mind, please let me know. I would also urge people to try and get the filters directly from Mot and save a little bit over my cost.

I am perfectly happy to keep all the filters (yes, I know I am crazy!. However, I am sure that many of you will *not* be interested at this price. Then again, I do not know. If there are more takers than the filters I have (after a few cases for myself :) ), I am sure that I can request Mot again.

Well, the line forms to the right.

Since my PM box may be full, I will request anybody interested to post here. I do know that I have a list already, but it would be helpful if we can go through this exercise here on this thread.

(Click on the thumbnails for a bigger picture.)

This is my old stash of 20004 filters from US sources. So I didn't really need more filters, but.....

Here is a new box of 9 cases, sent by Mot:

The custom box was a quality job. The filters were secure.

The outside of the box was only a little dinged, and only on the corners.

This is how it arrived and I had just cut the tape:

I'm out completely. I'll let someone else enjoy the thrill of buying a $15.00+ filter for their truck.

Rick,

Sorry to hear it. :frown:

I can send them via slowboat for (much) cheaper.

Maybe next time, eh? ;)

vcheng,

Glad to hear (and see) that they arrived safely!

Let me know if I can assist you again.

Mot :crybaby: ;)
