Just a thought here... but it could end up being easier/cheaper getting together with one of the big guys with this. If we can get realistic estimates of the amount of filters the mudders will consume anually, and get in touch with Marv over at Specter, or the guys at Man-a-fre, and let them know it would be $worth$ $their$ $while$, one of those guys may just be willing to fill up the arse end of a 3/4 full container-o-parts coming from Japan with OEM 20004's, keep them in their warehouse, and dole them out at 9-10 bucks per filter as needed. JMHO, I would gladly pay Marv $100 per case as needed if he is willing to keep them in HIS garage. Duties on a container of junk with a few filters in there would be substatially lower once it was spread around than paying customs on a box of brand new shiny filters. I think that the reduction in customs would more than cover the small markup from MAF or SOR on consumables, as well as the fact that they would likely purchase a forklift load as opposed to a boxload.

Anyone in LA going to visit the little guy at Specter any time soon???

well what about giving the first shot to some poor little vendor guy like crushers or G&S, who advertise here and can also ship them over here for free?

Well anything other than the JDM Toyota 90915-20004 filters would be a definite disappointment for me, unless the Denso 115010-5020 is an EXACT, and I mean EXACT replacement part. (I tried googling Denso 115010-5020 but there were no hits.)

Somebody (not on IH8MUD) promised me the original Japanese Denso filters but sent me poor quality Thailand filters. I am still dealing with that headache through the credit card company.

No offense MOT, but I would rather that you help me with the exact part number if at all possible, or help me understand that the Denso 115010-5020 is EXACTLY the 20004, especially internally.

Not to be a pain, but I think that the exact 20004 filter is worth the effort and a reasonable premium, but any other filter might not be. A fallback would be the YZZD3, but I appreciate your efforts in ensuring the correct filter.

Always trying to keep the shiny side up,

VCheng.

Before I get some of you excited please allow me to confirm something with the dealer:

Even though I had requested for a Denso filter with the part number of 115010-5020 (Toyota's #: 90915-20004) the filter guy has not told me that it was made in Japan and was the same "type".

So I've just asked him for a picture of the exact product, if at all possible. I also asked him to confirm that it was manufactured by Denso, in Japan, and with the part number of 115010-5020.

I'll let you know what I find out and apologize in advance if all of this turns out to be for nothing.

Hey... Crushers or G&S works for me if they want to give it a go. I generally try to support the little guy! I was not trying to push business any particular direction. SOR popped into my mind because every time I have been there Marv has containerloads of crap from Japan/Australia, as well as contacts at Toyota to be able to likely get the real toyota boxed filters. Hell... he has more toyota branded parts than most dealers... except for Dan of course(put yer needle down). I think that ANYONE that regularly has their own containers o junk coming in from Japan would be in a much better position customs and shipping wise that they could make descent coin AND still get filters to us cheaper than direct mail from Japan. I am not against putting togther a 'mass buy' type of deal and buy 25 or 50 filters up front, but is just nicer for me to be able to make a call and buy 4 filters. I'm just not sure that the little guys would want to put up the $$$ to buy in large enough quantity to really make it lucrative for everyone involved, unless they were going to turn the whole pile and get their money out mass buy style. Even at $5 per filter wholesale, at palette quantities, that is likely going to be $5k+ in filters. A lot to invest and have it trickle back in over a year or two.

But hey... this is just a SWAG that has lead to a lot of speculation. Anyone that knows one of our local MUD little guys, hit them up and see if they would be interested.

Considering that the 15600-41010 'large' filters are US$9.25, some of the 20004 prices being thrown around aren't all that outrageous. On the other hand, the YZZD3 is only US$4.06. Either that, or my prices are old...

That is the Tailand filter that none of these guys want.

I am all in favor of supporting (any buying my filters from) any of the advertised sponsors here to import this filter on their own. The venders have all the facilities to stock these filters, not to mention established process to ship and collect payments for products.

Since the 20004 filters are also used in other Toyota engines, should we move this thread to outfitting and post a link from the 100/80/FJC sections?

I'm in Dallas and have access to loading docks in Houston. What does it cost to ship 1000 filters via slow boat from Japan?

Don't know, but you realize someone's going to have to pony up north of 10 grand for that pallet of filters?

The only way to tell for sure may be to cut one in half.

You guys may have deeper pockets for this filter than me, but it seems the only way to get this to something reasonable is to get them shipped directly by Denso and then someone distribute to individuals. Right now there's two middle men and another to come once the filters get here. Course maybe I'm a little spoiled by the ones in the garage that were $7.50 a pop. But right now we're at $15, still sitting on a boat at the port of entry.

Not that I don't appreciate the effort. Just being realistic about it.

Has anyone thought of just calling Denso USA, telling them who we are and what we want? One of the small Cruiser vendors mentioned should be able to buy from them:

DENSO Sales California, Inc.
3900 Via Oro Ave.
Long Beach, CA. 90810
310-513-8500 Direct
Ask for "Aftermarket"
310-513-7379 Fax

toyota oem box dimensions are 77mm x 77mm x 104mm
filter 76mm bottom diameter x 103mm height
boxed weight 9.5 ounces
says "denso 115010-5020 made in japan" on the side

pretty distinctive from the bottom because of the red oil seal and red stuff behind check valve.

i sent an email last year and again about two weeks ago. no answer but maybe a phone call would do better.

no i made a typo - fixed it now :D

Should I mention I have been slowly using up my stock of '04s on my FJ60? I am down to the last one, which is available to the highest bidder over $50.:D My 80 is running the traditional "big" '10 filter with no complaints. Once the '04s are gone, everything will have an '10.

Here is another offer-I have my last '04 filter. I will trade you even up for a '10 "big" filter. I'll bring it to Cruise Moab, look me up.
