I meant the 12v trigger for the reverse camera. I tied it into the rear tail lights. So when in reverse, and the reverse lights light up, it also sends 12v to the deck and pops it automatically into backup camera mode.
Do you have to push the rear camera button for the camera to come up or can you be listening to the radio and then go to reverse and have it automatically pull up?

It's automatic for me. Whenever I go into reverse, the deck changes to the reverse camera input. No manual input required.

@baggar11 if you want to hit the easy button.

That's pretty slick, are those a perfect fit for our cruiser slots down by the rear heater controls?
No, not quite that easy. You’ll have to cut a rectangle in one of the switch blanks and then snap it in. The finished result is a bit cleaner as the lip covers the cut

I just put one of these decks in my Landcruiser. My main reason for choosing this one was the low key, oem looking appearance and the rotary volume knob. Still have to wire in the camera I got for it. But it looks great in the dash. Turns out its a pretty popular one to have on here.

For those who don't wish to play with the custom firmware, there is a update for it now 1.02.07. The newest version makes the nag screen time out after a few seconds automatically. I will probably leave it alone for now, and play with the firmware/startup screen stuff later.

Thanks, just ordered one. Hoping it'll clean up my USB plug-in a bit.

Doing the exact same install but without the adapter harness:bang:. No biggy, but I have a couple questions I'm hoping someone can answer.

-First, the dimmer/illumination. It looks like the source is white w/green? I see the same white w/green goes into almost all the switches in the dash. I was planning to tap into the one that looks like it was the smaller connector of the two that would have gone into the factory stereo. I have no reference as I'm replacing a crapping single DIN Kenwood that wasn't wired for it.

-Second, does the truck antanna wire need to be plugged in? I'd rather operate the antanna manually from the dash.

-Third, I was planning to just tie in the Park wire with the red switch +12v so I can use it whenever I want. Problem?

-Fourth was planning on picking up the Rev signal from the drives kick panel, but read somewhere it might also be accessible somewhere behind the glove box? That would be a lot simpler.

Finishing the install tonight with any luck. Any help would be great. I'll keep at searching as well.

I picked up a circular replacement USB connector from amazon - and removed the 12v lighter socket and installed the USB 3 socket there.

It looks factory - or close to it for a super clean install using the adapter harness.

I've got some sockets for console mounted 12V USB points to fit into the center console coin holder slots for additional charge points.

The antenna connection is just the actual signal - the power antenna if I remember correctly is powered off the blue wire on the head unit - that'll trigger the antenna up / down motor and retains the up and down manual adjustment on the dash.

I think the reverse signal can be picked up from the shifter - I'd need to dig out the EWD to review that. My camera has a built in signal wire that runs with the video signal so I'll just pick it up from the reverse lights in the tail.

I also added this so I'd not have to ground the park wire to disable the video lockout.

Still figuring out the best / cleanest route for the backup camera as I've a 4X4 Labs rear bumper that impacts the best mounting points. I'll document it here once I get it completed if it helps anyone.

Edit : Reverse light circuit - looks like you can pick it up on the shifter on the backup light switch P1 on the EWD.

I bought the flush mount one posted earlier and am thinking I might put it in the console somewhere so it's not running from the dash. PS. you're no help at all!

Edit: Okay very helpful after all! Thanks

Yeah, so I left the blue antanna wire hanging and the antenna buttons work fine. I was able to get the big white plug into the heating/cooing section so that the dash lights would come on and tested the White/green and indeed it was dimmed power. The white/green wire originally going to the stereo is the dimmer. The park signal had a sticker on it that said +12v, so I tied it in with the red switched power. I'll report on that method. I didn't really understand what that video lockout thing and what it's supposed to do, but I'll report on mine have 12v all the time. Still need to route video back and mic up tonight after work.

Does you antenna still go up and down? Did you leave the blue wire loose? Thanks

Lately, I've been on track to modernize the Cruiser a bit. I've owned it for over 10 years now, and aside from getting t-boned, I don't plan on getting rid of it anytime soon. And Thanksgiving was a pretty good time for deals this year.

I ended up snatching a Viper 5806v security and remote start system for $139. Called around to a couple local shops and had one install it for $315. I didn't want some high schooler from Best Buy tearing up the wiring harness. But that's not what this thread is about.

Was able to snatch a Sony XAV-AX100(http://a.co/1pVc8wd) stereo on an Amazon warehouse deal for $297. Then grabbed an Esky 170 degree backup camera(http://a.co/c4EQQTb) in a license plate frame for $26.

Using the Metra 70-1761 harness was a snap. It automatically bypasses the factory amp. I soldered and shrink wrapped the wires. On the Sony, I also ended up grounding the parking brake wire to the ground wire.

I ran the microphone wire up and around the driver side footwell, then up the a-pillar to the visor. All while tucking the wire into the windshield gasket. Worked great for concealing the wire.

I then ran the video wire in a similar fashion, but then took it all along the driver side floor area. Neatly tucking it under the plastic snap pieces and back through the rear tire jack storage area. Then along under the back carpet cover trim piece until I dropped it down to the tailgate wire run and back to the license plate frame.

See first sentence of previous post:rofl:

But yes, yes

Do you apply the Superdavex firmware the exact same way you would apply the sony firmware update as specified here
If not could you tell us how you applied the firmware the readme on his git page is not very intuitive..
Thanks!

The ugliest part of this job was probably my USB mount. My dremel was making a mess of the little plastic piece next to the cigarette lighter. But it works.

Other than that, the install was pretty painless.

Sony xav-ax100 impression:

I strictly bought it for the ease of use. I wanted a stereo that replicated something from an OEM build. It's a very simple deck that supports Carplay and Android Auto. The rotary dial provides great tactile feedback. The 2 biggest pet peeves are the startup nag screen and the tuner presets saving channel info instead of by channel number. The nag screen does not timeout. You must hit OK to continue. Fortunately, superdavex(GitHub - superdavex/Sony-XAV-AX100) found a way to remove the nag screen and his patch worked great!

I just installed this unit in my cruiser and it will go right to the backup camera display before the system has fully loaded.
