So are there any TRD Superchargers left?

I also talked to Mike @ LC Engineering yesterday and they said they are working on a supercharger for the 4.5. Not sure if that just means they're making preparations to sell the new Magnuson one. No price quoted.

I want to say I would buy one for $4k, but I don't know if my inner cheap-ass would win that battle.

:edit: just got the go-ahead from the wife. :o

beno, cdan, and photoman helped me out a bunch about a year ago when I grabbed a rebuild SC off eBay from Jon Bond SC. Jon was great too. A bit stressful, as I'm a total noob when it comes to working in an engine bay, but it worked out nicely. The biggest issue I ran into was getting the crank bolt off (and for which I will spend major time in purgatory for all the creative swearing I did).

I'm now in the process of getting smaller pulley wheels and a meth injection kit. I know there's risk, but it is pretty fun to build your confidence over time doing these mods. Besides, the truck is so much nicer to drive with that extra boost.

I also spoke with Magnuson and they said there would be a 4.5L option. Wow. They're also picking up the reins on the 5.7L S/C. Not sure on the 4.7L.

And the 5VZ. I doubt they will do the 4.7, that one was not mentioned in the conversation I had with them. Initial push is the 1FZ and the 5VZ since there is no programming associated with those engines.

Ha, well I guess mine can go back to being a "someday" install now.

I will be surprised if this becomes a runaway hit - the people who contacted me I could count on 1 hand (fingers to spare)- those who really had the cash/inclination & who wasn't. -For those who were stashing cash for mine (2 I'd talked with), this will be Christmas come early!

More power to Magnuson but seems like Toyota already captured the lion share of the market back when, but I'm wrong all the time.

IMO, it's going to be a losing venture in the long run unless Magnuson got the tooling for pennies on the dollar.

Who is going to pay for an upgrade that might be 2 times what they paid for the entire truck... let alone the PM necessary to install a supercharger in to a truck with 150-300K miles.

Few people have spend almost that much in one set of tires alone and I presume they would want to pay to make those expensive tires spin faster.

This is an interesting option for sure. And this very well could move up my HG rebuild timeline.

... I am pretty sure I am bypassing purgatory and going straight to hell!!! I invented some new words that even had the friendly curious labs next door trying to cover their ears! Hope I meet a few of the Toyota designers there that had a hand in the 1FZ engine design/engine bay layout.

I know next to nothing about SC's but know a little about turbos (well, CTD that is). What's the price vs. power increase when talking about SC vs. turbo? Seems turbo would produce quite a bit more power but probably a lot more $?
HP increase:
turbo > SC
Cost:
turbo > SC
Ease of install (extras/custom fab work required):
turbo > SC

Is this correct?

And after it's all said & done, is an LS swap more power & less money (I doubt the money part)?

I would say yes except the last one... the SC is easier to install than the turbo.

That's what I was implying. The turbo probably takes more custom/fab pieces & a lot more labor. Thanks!

IMO, if you are thinking "money" as the primary motivation with this (and trying to make a rational cost-benefit analysis decision about whether to buy a SC or do an engine swap), then you are probably NOT the customer for the SC or the engine swap.

I'd recommend a used Corolla as a better option.

It's a dollar per HP question.
