Update

Here is a photo of the first adaptor with the AA adaptor next to it for reference. (new plate on the top) The bolt holes are off a little bit, so they are being moved a little bit.

Also here is a pict of using the CNC in order to locate the holes more accurately. Locator "pins" are installed in the bolt holes, then a sensor is used to find the exact center of the pin for placement of the holes. The first time they were measured by hand, and were close, but not close enough... The bolts would install in the holes, but depending how they were tightened down, it would cause the plate to shift about 0.060" to one side or the other. The machinist did not like it, and is doing it over.

Shouldn't be too long now...

plate adapters

nice, very nice

Looks like all 10 are spoken for. If anyone else wants in, better speak up now before they are done. I can add more before the machinist is finished.

After the my order from the machinist is complete, I would need to get another 10 people to place an order.

Thanks
Shawn

Any update on the retooling?

Chris

Sorry for the late reply.

Along with the transmission side, the transfer side was not correct either. So the transfer was measured in the CNC the same way the trans was. He feels confident that the holes are right now, and I am going to TRY to take him ANOTHER transfer case to see if there are any variances in the 2 cases. If they are the same, he will produce them...

Again, sorry for the delay. To make up for it, there will be a little something extra in the packages for your guys as a thank you. What the extra is, is a secret, but you will like it...

Thanks
Shawn

I have been looking for a sm465 as I have one of the plates coming. Anyone know if this uses a 4wd or 2wd sm465 (or does it matter)

Thanks,
Daniel

1968-1978 gm 4wd applications. came in blazers, pickups, etc...

Dan, where are you located, I contacted a fella who had one in central NJ and he wanted $25 (needs to be rebuilt). he might still have it.

Thanks Shawn!

Rebuild of the 465 is an easy proposition. Special tools required: a bench top hydraulic press; bearing puller set; an a very good pair of compound snap ring pliers. Nice to have: a cheap engine stand; mount the case on it on long standoffs to make your work quite easy. Do the snap ring eliminator conversion while your in there. There is very good thread on Pirate providing all the part numbers for each year. Do an internet search on the rebuild. a step by step with pictures is out there.

Update

Went to the shop yesterday to drop off a second transfer case to check the bolt hole alignment. Everything lined up nice and TIGHT.

Here is a photo of 2 of the early adaptors. The first one with the bolts is what we used to check for the alignment. The second one was machined before I got there and he stopped at the bolt holes incase there was an issue with the alignment with the 2nd transfer case.

While I was there, the holes were drilled and tapped in the second plate. No outer profile was not done on these two plates YET just incase there was a problem with the alignment on the 2nd case. They will have a nice outer profile added to them. (They will not be big and square)

Looks like everything is a go and he said he was starting on the production last night...

Thanks
Shawn
