Looking for a new battery and found 2 different versions of the 27 group available at Batteries + (Killer warranty!)
27 and 27f, what is the difference?

I have a x2 power battery. Love it, spins the engine fast on start up and lots of reserve power on tap for running electronics.

I bought a 27F x2 back in 2011. It’s still starting the truck.

I wouldn’t advise the “F” unless your running it as a second battery on the driver side.

In the regular battery position it puts the terminals on the front of the battery tray closest to the hood and firewall. You will need to adjust the battery cables to accommodate for this. Or just get the regular 27.

Can the stock alternator keep this charged?

I use the x2 power 27m (marine) in my hzj75.
The m gives you a second pair of posts up top. Handy for accessories. I have an aux fuse box wired to mine. They may have to order it for you as they don't always have the m in stock.

The x2 power batteries are great but very expensive. I miss the good old days when the Sears Die-Hard Platinum was a good budget friendly agm battery.

I can only justify the expense because I use my rig in remote backcountry spots in mexico and I would be pissed if I couldn't keep my tecate cold.

This is your main battery? Do you have a dual setup?

No problems with the alternator keeping it topped off?

Sorry, I’ve had bad experiences with expensive AGM’s in the past …

It’s been great as far as I can tell. Truck always starts and everything works when I need it. It kept a fridge running in the truck for two days in hot weather without issues.

alrighty - so:

X2 Xtreme Power 27M for main battery location in FJ62. Stainless Steel Tray on passenger side.

I just tried to stuff the 31M in my 100 series two days ago. The upgraded Slee battery terminal connectors got in the way of the dual stud/thread on the top. I’m very familiar with this battery.

Ive got two of these x2 power Group 27 batteries in my truck and they are amazing. I use them in all of my 4x4s. theyre made by northstar... who made the original odyssey battery or whatever. They run for a really long time before they die and they have more CCA than an optima red. I use the stock battery tray on the stock location and the stainless tray on the second one just like you are planning. Keep in mind, these are a smidge wider than a normal group 27 for some reason. My main battery barely fits with the way my ls swap crap is.

Alright sold.

If only I could get two of these into my 100 series. Currently doing the big 3+ wire upgrade …

The airbox really kills it in the 100 series. You could always drop down a size or something to fit it. Or make a bracket and run it under the truck or in the cargo area. I used to run my battery in my trunk on my drift car

If I was going to run an interior battery, I would probably go lithium and hide it behind my seats between my drawer. Just need a long run of wire from my redarc charging device.

A snorkel could potentially give me the space I need too …

I have two of them, isolated by a solenoid. One for stock vehicle systems and one to keep my tecate cold.

I have no problems charging both by the alternator. I have a 100amp alternator in my 75 but thats not necessary to keep the batteries charged. In my 60 I had a similar setup and the stock alternator charged them fine.

If your charging system is up to snuff (good voltage) it should be fine.

Our alternators don't have the ability to vary the voltage to the optimum values for the battery charge cycles (bulk, float, etc) so I also have a solar charger that can top them off, and I do periodically put a Schumacher charger on each battery to be sure they get a good full charge.

I am a little nuts about charging but I want my pricey batteries to last a long time.

Im the same way. I have a solar panel for my house battery … and will probably do a hood panel for the main once I take the plunge on one of these batteries. Also have a CTEK charger I throw on once a month or so.

I was just throwing out 14.3 volts as I drove around with my just upgraded big 3 wires on my 100 series.
