Happy Thanksgiving, everyone! Hope you have a wonderful time with your family.
I am attempting to install Mark’s beefy battery cables on my 1988 FJ62. I am in conundrum on removing the negative battery cable as it attaches to the passenger side motor mount. The AC compressor is in the way. Is there even room to remove the bolt? Do I have to remove the AC compressor first?
Thank you!

I was just looking at this today as I have new engine mounts. I don’t really see how to get that cable out without removing the compressor. Which also requires removing the PS pump.

Thank you for the input Jon!
As an alternate solution, could I jack up the engine, disconnect the engine mount on the passenger side to get to the negative battery cable?
Thank you!

Might work, to do so you'll need to loosen motor mounts on both sides of the engine. A chunk of wood under the oil pan with the stock jack can be used to lift the engine. Keep an eye on the fan, shroud, and upper radiator hose as you do this. This method works for replacing MMs on a 2F so should work on a 3FE in your situation.

Thank you Godwin!
Heh-Heh! This will be another simple project that blows up into a much larger project. Now I'm on the hunt for new motor mounts. If I'm going to lift the engine to get to the negative battery cable, may as well replace the motor mounts while I'm in there!

You should have room without pulling the compressor. Remove the alternator and bracket, the ac compressor can stay put. Here's some pics from when I replaced my battery negative cable

Thank you S.CarolinaFJ80, the photos help a lot! Now I just need some warmer weather, the cold makes my hands cramp up.

the 60 series is different than the 62 series in the way the a/c compressor mounts

Thank you Godwin!

When I replaced all the grounds on my 62 with a heavier "custom" set many moons ago, I snipped off the original ground cable at the motor mount, and attached the new cable to one of the AC compressor bracket bolts.

This is the exact same thing I did even down to the spot. With several good points to attach around that area, it simply isn’t worth the effort involved in keeping in the stock location unless you really want to preserve originality or have a specific reason in mind.

Skniper and Tiamat,
That makes more sense and I don’t have to hide under a rock dreading the motor mount method. The old wire will get a snip and I can move on.
Thank you!

I just clipped and abandoned that terminal.

I believe the instructions had an alternate mounting location for the new ground?

As much as I wanted to get rid of it - it just wasn’t worth potentially cracking a hose and stranding the truck until I could get parts!

Great info!. I just picked up some heavier cables. What are some of the other alternative spots to ground the battery on the chassis other than the AC compressor?
