Great write up. Really enjoying following your travel. I am I Oklahoma City now and will be under a high wind warning for late tonight & tomorrow and temperature drop as well. Sounds like I am running a day ahead of you bummer was hoping to see ya heading down the highway. I'm going into Tulsa tomorrow for awhile but I'm following your journey. Have fun and stay safe

The belt was wrapped with duct tape? That should have been a red flag considering it is an important safety device.

Great adventure so far! I started reading too late our I would have encouraged you to swing from Raton down to Cimmaron and take the short drive from Cimarron to Eagle Nest and then double back - through the Cimarron state park and see Eagle Nest Lake - probably would have added a half day easy as it's further south (I could stay there forever). Northeast New Mexico is one of my favorite part of the country.

I wish, pretty consistent cross wind for last 4 hours, I see why there are wind turbines everywhere.

I did 6 hours on Friday in heavy snow with winds up to 40 mph in a 40 with a vortec and lifted a few inches.

Fun times.

It's keeps you on your toes.

We did swing into Stillwater for lunch at Eskimo Joe's before pushing on, and got into Tulsa yesterday night, grabbed a good dinner and a few beers and hit the hay. I would have taken more pictures and posted last night, but most of yesterday was just heavy blowing cross winds and most of it looked about the same. I would like to see it when all the crops are growing and it is green.

From Tulsa we shot back onto the Trans America trail with the goal of getting to Little Rock tonight......that didn't happen. It was a fun drive, but there were a lot of times on the trail that we ended up moving around 20 mph. We spent about 6 hours in the car, broken up by a dive Mexican food joint. I was speaking to my wife as we pulled in for lunch, and she asked if two guys in a small car should stop for a burrito lunch...should have listened. We had a lot of fun on the trails and we ended up in Clarksville, AR for the night. Just finished up a steak dinner in a great little restaurant, Fox and Fork, and we were the only people in there. Looking forward to hitting the trails again tomorrow, and the rain is coming, so guess we will see how water tight the old girl is and what the rain does to the trails. Aiming for getting to MS tomorrow, but will just have to see how fast we get through the Ozarks.

With that said, I had the same question when I saw how close the tires were to the wheel well.

good to know you're up the road. Looks like you got to hit Lee creek. Supposed to be wet tomorrow. Do you go to Clinton through hector? the road over white oak mt looks pretty nice. I was up there yesterday and it looked really nice. if there's wind, watch for deadfall, there was a log across the road that some one push over to the side earlier in the day. enjoy the hills!
