The journey has begun. Got up around 3am yesterday to head to the airport and 9 hours later we were arriving at the airport in Sheridan, WY where Heather picked us up. My buddy Shook who is a mechanic decided this sounded like an adventure he needed to be a part of and it's nice to have him along, not to mention it made my wife feel better about the whole thing. I bought the 40 from Woodys, Wagens and Classic Cruisers. I can't say enough about how great Heather has been to work with and all the help and hospitality she gave. She picked us up in the 40 at the airport and I thought it looked great. I got to drive my first 40 on the way to the bar for our first welcome to Wyoming beer. We then headed over to her shop and she has some really cool trucks sitting outside, including on of Howard Hugh's work truck with the old aviation logo. It was snowing and the roads were supposed to be frozen over so Heather recommended we stay there last night and offered to let us stay at her place.

We now had some time to kill, so decided it was the responsible thing to begin a Sheridan pub crawl. Sheridan is an incredibly cool town and we definitely plan on trying to get back to do some fly fishing and hunting. After more than a few frothy IPAs we made our way over to the steak house to grab some dinner. From there we headed back to Heathers and got to meet her boyfriend who welcomed us in.

The next morning we got up feeling a little rough....must have been the altitude. We headed over to the shop to pick up the truck as they were touching up a few things last night for us. We grabbed a big breakfast at the Cowboy Cafe, thanked Heather for being awesome and hopped on in to start the journey. Our first tank of gas got us to Casper, and I have to admit I was really surprised with how it good it rode and other than going uphill, we were cruising around at 65mph. In Casper we stopped by Sherri's Place for some burgers and chicken fried steak. We are now off to try to make Fort Collins by tonight in time to check out New Belgium and then off to Denver tomorrow morning. Looking forward to seeing what the next 10 days brings, and I smile every time I walk up to the old girl.

Awesome! keep it coming...

For a second I thought I was reading the back pages of a playboy magazine. Lol all until you said boyfriend. Awesome sounding adventure. I'm sure one you will never forget.

Sounds about right 150 miles per tank... if you can take it, dial your speed down to 55 and you should get another 20 miles or so out of the tank. Could save you a couple of tanks in the end.

2,400 miles/150 = 16 tanks of fuel to get home.

Looking forward to more of your adventures!

Good luck and safe travels! Keep Cruising on! Keep all of us posted and post some pictures along the way!

Is that 65mph by the speedo or by GPS? Great to see another mustard 40 getting a good work out.

If anyone is in the head lights of this badass mustard yellow '78, offer these two awesome guys a beer. Andrew and Bill(Schook) are 2 of the coolest, most laid back guys I have ever had the pleasure of doing business with. Good luck guys, see you in Charleston this spring!

Tippin my hat to you for choosing to take the trip in lieu of shipping...

How much did they pay you for that quote? I don't think they will make a cap big enough for Bill's head.

Be safe. Say hi to Dennis and see you soon. AJ

It looks like you've timed it perfectly weather wise, out west at least. It should be clear sailing. Have fun and be safe and enjoy the rock star attention you'll receive as you travel home...

Awesome looking truck
And the adventures have begun
