What a great story! Happy you tracked it down and hopefully you can work it out to get it back. Does it still have the hard top with it? Are you going to try and restore to original or close to original condition?

Thx! Yes - owner still has hardtop and all panels. Cool, since I really want to restore those also. I'd love a comfortable and reliable ride that I can wheel. Doesn't have to be a concours car.Going for a restomod if things work out
Thanks @fireflyr - I can tell you that parts 2 and 3 of this thread will absolutely be of me retrieving this, and the resto-mod. Great call - already in the works! Much appreciated on the parts - probably will be making that request on mud as this comes around!![]()
Fix or Sell: '67 FJ40
We've had this Landcruiser for about 20 years. Modified it with 4 wheel discs (Poser mod), H42 4 speed with 3 speed transfer case, rebuilt F.5 engine, DUI distributor, Howell fuel injection, Paki soft top (top needs replacement), 33x9.5x15 BFG's on Toyota steelies, Nason's Dune Beige 416 paint...forum.ih8mud.com
Funny that I could see myself or my son going through this in 10 years if I had followed the path I was on. Thankfully the good people of MUD talked me out of it.
Was talking to a guy I had flown with a couple weeks ago. He had built a nice CJ5 back when I was originally building my 40. He sold it about 15 years ago when he retired. 10 years passed and his son started secretly looking for it. He bought it back and gave it to his dad on his 70th birthday.
I guess the moral is don’t sell in the first place.
It would be awesome if part two of this thread becomes the quest to retrieve the ‘72, and part 3 is the resto-mod. We all got parts, hit us up if you need something.
Your probably right that it showed up that way - I'll bring some straps and strap it all together if I need to. Plan to just leave the soft top unless something comes up. Appreciate the insight from everybody on that. They also probably trailered the FJ40 that way from Duluth to Bozeman.
Not sure what type of top - will check it out when I get on sight this weekend. I'll make it work.If that top held up under a snow load, it should do fine at speed. Just check it often and be prepared to remove it if things get wonky. Looks like a Bestop?
More to come - I'll keep everybody updated. Pretty awesome having a community of Cruiser folks following. Appreciate the advise - I won't attempt the half-ass install.Wow I love this thread.
As far as towing with the soft top if it’s tight and secure I would roll on home.
I would NOT half ass install the hard top and try to drive home. (Coming from a guy who picked his up in pieces off the interstate at midnight and single digits)
I cannot wait to see this come back to life. Such an incredible story posting, finding. Buying.
Then the topics of this cruiser all over the country are icing on the cake.
Count me in.![]()
