Thanks for sharing. Rooting for you.

Monday update: Talked again to current owner again today, and we reached an agreement on price. If the weather holds, I'll be dragging my utility trailer up to Montana this coming weekend to pick it up! Talked to my cousin (OP) today and if things work out, he may come with me for the pickup.

Has anybody got advice/concerns about trailering a cruiser with the soft top on? current owner has the hard panels, roof, and rear hatch, but he's not sure about any hardware. I'm a bit concerned about trying to make that install with no hardware and site unseen. Any advice appreciated!

Wow I love this thread.

As far as towing with the soft top if it’s tight and secure I would roll on home.

I would NOT half ass install the hard top and try to drive home. (Coming from a guy who picked his up in pieces off the interstate at midnight and single digits)

I cannot wait to see this come back to life. Such an incredible story posting, finding. Buying.

Then the topics of this cruiser all over the country are icing on the cake.

Count me in. 🍿🍿🍿

If that top held up under a snow load, it should do fine at speed. Just check it often and be prepared to remove it if things get wonky. Looks like a Bestop?

Funny that I could see myself or my son going through this in 10 years if I had followed the path I was on. Thankfully the good people of MUD talked me out of it.

Was talking to a guy I had flown with a couple weeks ago. He had built a nice CJ5 back when I was originally building my 40. He sold it about 15 years ago when he retired. 10 years passed and his son started secretly looking for it. He bought it back and gave it to his dad on his 70th birthday.

I guess the moral is don’t sell in the first place.

It would be awesome if part two of this thread becomes the quest to retrieve the ‘72, and part 3 is the resto-mod. We all got parts, hit us up if you need something.

Thanks @fireflyr - I can tell you that parts 2 and 3 of this thread will absolutely be of me retrieving this, and the resto-mod. Great call - already in the works! Much appreciated on the parts - probably will be making that request on mud as this comes around!

More to come - I'll keep everybody updated. Pretty awesome having a community of Cruiser folks following. Appreciate the advise - I won't attempt the half-ass install.

Not sure of the actual size but most the top is put together with one size bolt ,most likely 6MM. Would have the seller provide a few pictures of the threaded holes around tub, cap and the four on the top of the windshield. Also how long the posts on the sides of the hard top. Holes on windshield bolted to a good piece on the cap, few bolt on the sides, cap and the posts going down in the B pillar would put the top together. Add a bunch of ratchet straps you shouldn't have any problems. This FST doesn't even have holes in the tub for a hard top or any posts for the B pillars.
