Hey @alkarich and all - this is indeed the Cruiser! What a great group! Never ceases to amaze me what an incredible tool the internet is. I didn't honestly think I'd be able to find it. Per a DM from alkarich, I have the number of a contact in Bozeman who may be able to put us in touch with the current owner. I just got off the phone with my cousin @jwheelwr and he's as excited as I am. Somehow I didn't have notifications turned on from IH8MUD, but got these on now and keep you all updated as this progresses! THANKS!

Here is a pic of the cruiser in 1997 right before I sold it. It was a sad day for me!

Got the PM.
Good news and bad news.

The good news is I do know the 40 you’re looking for.
I was there in Reno when my friend purchased it in 1997 from Eldon. It spent the next year in Idaho, then to Duluth.

The bad news is that I spoke to him after getting the PM and turns out he sold it last summer.
Someone local bought it to flip. He believes it was sold to someone in Montana.
Unfortunately he didn’t keep the contact info of the local buyer.

Hope this helps.
If I get some more information I’ll definitely pass it on.
AWESOME! Just replied at bottom of the thread. Thank you!

While my friend owned the 40, he swapped out the front axle for a disc brake one from the late 70's. He added discs to the rear as well.

It came with a Fairey overdrive when purchased from the PO. That was later removed and changed to a 4sp transmission mated to the original 3sp tcase.

Trying to remember some of the other changes.

Obviously a new paint job as one can tell from the photos.

Hey all - quick update: Talked to current owner in Bozeman today. He's going to verify the VIN match, and send me some pics. Sounds like it's been sitting for a while, and not sure on whether it currently is running. Going to try to get this baby back home to Reno, if the price is at all reasonable.

Hey all - update here:

Yesterday I got hold of the current owner. He sent me a pic of the title and I had a bit of a start when I noticed the VIN didn't match. After talking with @alkarich we decided that this pretty much had to be the right one and I asked the current owner for a pick of the VIN from the plate on the truck. Sure enough - the paperwork got switched up somehow and this is the RIGHT TRUCK! Amazed - solid confirmation this was my dad's/grandfather's/my old truck. AWESOME!

Today I had a long talk with current owner. I got a bunch of pics of the current condition. Unfortunately it's been sitting outside for about last 18 months under Montana snowpack, but still looks like the bones are good. Appears to remain rust free, frame looks solid, and generally still in decent shape. Does not run, but turns over. I'm going to do a bit more research and see if we can reach a deal tomorrow. Pics attached here of current condition. Any input/insights from anybody are appreciated.
