One of the first accessories I got was the ScanGauge II. Using excellent advice from this forum, I modified the OBD port orientation to allow the closing of the fuse door. I have it currently (and awkwardly) in/on the unused cubby above the radio so that the cable runs hidden (photo below). I currently have it showing water temp, intake air temp, MPH, and battery voltage. I have run back through several years of searches, but really only have two questions that I would like thoughts on:

(1) Where did you mount yours - did you need anything more than velcro?
(2) What do you have it showing on the home screen? (I kind of think I'd like something other than intake air)

I’ve got mine on top of the dash left side of steering wheel. It displays water temp, voltage, avg mpg, and intake temp. I’ll toggle through others as needed.
I’ve got one in my t100 in the same place S my cruiser.

Mounted on top of the steering column right in front of the black plastic trim around the cluster with a piece of double sided tape. Perfect view since it's right by the gauges and doesn't look out of place

I just tucked mine into the space below the single DIN head unit. Fits there very nicely with just enough room left over to keep a pair of my reading glasses (old eyes).

I always want to monitor Engine Coolant Temp of course and Alternator Status. Aside from those two....just pick what you like.

You can always toggle though the settings. Separately, I also have Oil Pressure and Trans Temp gauges. But the really important stuff is on the Scangauge.

Did you put a little Toyota sticker over the ScanGauge logo?

Yes. I painted them to match the dash and put a little Toyota sticker on them. I don’t have any friends so have time to do stuff like that.

Made a little mount out of aluminum from a beer can, covered with gaffers tape and wedged into sunroof control plastic.

Edit: the screw holding the moulding to the roof is through the aluminum mount.

Scanguage recently went dead. Lights up, no data; they have a good replacement policy I've heard.

Water temp, MPH, timing, Volts.

Same as mine. All others seem like an annoying spot to have to look at/take eyes off road.

I know you're not always monitoring it but I always seem too lol
Especially the temp on grades or something. It's basically an extension of the stock gauge location

It IS a good spot to glance down at. I don't actually 'monitor' mine...as much as just 'check' it from time to time.

And while I appreciate function over form....I just don't like the scabbed on look of some installations.

We are pretty limited in the 80 series as to where we can place them however. In my 100 series...it is much easier.

On top of the steering column. I usually have MPH, coolant temp at all times, others if I feel like looking at them. %LOD or whatever it's called is useful at times if I want to try to economize a bit...

A warning to Calif people: I've been informed a couple of times lately that if the smog check people see ANYTHING hooked up to the OBD plug, they'll fail it immediately. No one could tell me why. This is weird.

I've always just removed mine, didn't want anyone messing with it.

Left it in once and when I got back in to drive off it was just unplugged on the passenger seat.

That's what I have done. This year, smog guy said they can't preform the test if they even see something there. I haven't found any reason why this is. Of course, i'll forget all about it in two years.

Ignorance is the answer. You should not fail for that.

^^^^^^^

Because its California......of course. ;)

On top of steering column with the Velcro provided...although it’s about time to replace the velcro strip. Same gauges as others...coolant temp, intake temp, voltage, and MPG.

I bent up an aluminum bracket that is held by VHB tape to the top of the ashtray cubby. Normally I just display water temp and IAT. I find it interesting to try to predict the correlation between IAT, throttle input, and water temp on long drives :).

I decided to cut up the dash a small bit, and keep it up high. I am going to cut and fit a bezel to clean it up, but will leave it velcro'd in, so I can remove it when I get it smogged. Thanks for all of the thoughts and advice.
