This is a 1971 FJ40 that belongs to a customer of mine and I am helping him list it for sale. The 40 is in great overall shape and driven on a regular basis. It has an extensive service history with receipts going back to 1988. In the last 10 years it has been serviced exclusively by Preservation Land Cruisers, ACC Toyota, and Red Line Motorsports with receipts totaling over $40k.

Basics:
1971 FJ40 with original 1F motor, 3spd on the tree, drum brakes, manual steering

Recent service/ upgrade highlights:
  1. Dirt Roads premium reproduction Factory Soft top
  2. Restored FST doors with all new seals and plexi-glass
  3. Real Steel FST bows
  4. New BFG all-terrains
  5. New upholstery on front and rear seats
  6. OEM distributor with pertronix ignition conversion
  7. Rebuilt carburetor
  8. Man-a-fre headers
  9. Rebuilt rear differential
  10. New clutch, rear main
  11. Rebuild of transmission and transfer case
  12. Rebuilt front axle
  13. Rebuilt center arm
  14. Rust repair and repaint

This 40 is ready to hop in and be driven as is. It really needs nothing to be enjoyable as an everyday driver. Has a strong motor, transmission shifts smoothly, and the brakes stop great. The owner is asking $25,000 OBO. Please reach out to me directly and I am happy to answer any questions and talk in depth about this great FJ40.

Thanks,
JP

Bump my customer is ready to move this along he has told me $18,500 is his firm price. That’s a great price for this 40.

Please reach out with any questions.

Thanks!

Pardon my ignorance, is this a U.S. spec cruiser? As I hear they are more desirable to buyers. Any cold startup or driving videos? How comfortable on a 20 mile daily commute is something like this on flat Florida roads with 65 mph speed limits? I’ve been searching for years for the perfect one and there’s just so much info on each different model and year it’s hard to understand it all.

It is likely you will not find it comfortable if you’re making a comparison to any modern vehicle. It will likely run 65 on a flat road but it will be noisy and sound like the motor could come apart any moment, which is not the case but you will have doubts.
South American trucks are fine when done correctly, most were worked hard and shortcuts are taken when rebuilding many of them. Don’t buy an FJ40 if you want a comfortable quiet and waterproof daily driver. Buy one if you want something unique and simple.

Appreciate the response. That’s the exact reason I’m interested. I’ve always loved Toyota and owned many Toyota trucks. All manual transmission pickups. My current vehicle is a 2017 2.7L access cab 4x4. People get in to drive it and hate how slow and cumbersome and gutless it is. I prefer rowing through the gears and the mechanical feel of it much more than a smooth running automatic of today. Brings me back to being with grandfather in his early 80’s Toyota pickups.

Really am surprised not to see this one sold at this point. Seems like a heck of a deal, with work done at all the right places. Three on the tree might be a bit challenging for some, but just adds a bit more character as far as im concerned.

Actually the only thing that’s holding me back is that very thing. Seller hasn’t chimed in much so it may already be sold. Just a guess
