Was working on the brakes for our friend Galen’s HJ61. Almost there but the drum cylinders are leaking so pausing that while parts make their way.

While I had the tools out I decided to adjust the rears on Paul. Big diff. She needed it. Stops with alacrity now. Amazing how used to subpar brakes we can get.

I’ve got my list for SAS and I’m lagging but at least I shouldn’t fly off a mountain due to soft stoppers.

I found the same thing last year: getting the rear drums just right makes a huge difference. I have a 60, so my LSPV is attached to the brake booster, and not on the rear axle like your 62 … but same work and same effect. I hear a lot of complaints about these brakes, but I’m pretty happy with how mine work. They’re also arguably the most important thing to have dialed in for SAS - it’s high-stakes if your brakes don’t work right.

So true. Nothing like 1,000’ drop offs to question your wrenching skills.

I remember when I finally got my 40 dialed in (front disk-rear drum) and it actually scared me how good the brakes were.

A modest improvement I made with the 62s brakes was adding the small spacer for the LSPV.
I feel like these brakes are very dialed in now and when we do the group photo, I’ll again have an e-brake I can trust.

Think it'd be possible to get to como lake next Friday?
I doubt it. Normally can't even get the crawlers up there until mid to late June.

I kinda figured as much. Wasn't sure what the snowfall was like this year and I'm going to be in the area next week

There are a lot of roads that are already open. We can drive to our cabin. Check out these webcams. You might get close but I bet that you will hit snow drifts in the shade and above 10k.

Snow fall was actually light this year. You should be able to move around under 10k .. Over that you will hit snow pack even more in the shade. Might check out Stay the trail web site before you leave they do alot of trail reports this time year.

What a difference. We did it in the snow just a few weeks ago. The view was not nearly as good as this one. Thanks for sharing.

Side note. Dissent posted a You tube video and has some action shots of you in it, including the winching and Escalator.

Yep,Ben the owner was trying to lift the trie for good action shots for the video and went too far 😳
I jumped right in to help as I had just made a clean run of Hells Gate and was setting right on top.

The LC 250 stalled then the battery die. The nanny’s would not let him get it out of gear or release the parking brake 😡
All of this was unannounced to me. Because of all that It was pulling me down the hill, I had to ask them to anchor Me to another vehicle. And then to double the line with a snatch block, It was still stalling my wrench.
Then they finally jump started the 250 to get the parking brake off and get it out of gear and we were finally able to get it up the hill.

I never even got so much as a thank you from Ben 🤷‍♂️
At least I got some action shots in the video🤪

They seemed a bit panicked.

Some friendly advice to others: Never push a vehicle over by hand and hold it, especially standing right where it could crush folks if the vehicle slipped. My friend was okay and is still here today though he spent a few nights in the hospital after pushing a vehicle over and being crushed by the vehicle as it slipped and fell further into the ravine. There used to be winch anchor points up to the left though it’s likely that they are long gone by now.

Back to the San Juan Mountains…
