My running boards have been collecting dust and taking up space in my garage so finally decided to trim them so I could trash the rest of them.

I first tried to keep the whole top part of the steps and pop all of the clips back in but our feet would catch the lip anytime we stepped on the sliders and they would want to pop off. After the square clips have been popped they don’t hold as tight when they have been re-installed. So ended up trimming them like everyone else and just attaching the front.

Thinking it’s time I do the same

I just stuck some cheap OPT7 LED strips to the frame and spliced into the factory wiring for the door lights. Works great! I think there was someone selling an adapted harness on GXOR to make it super simple. *edit* found it: Josh Lee

Mine did. I cleaned the frame with some purple degreaser then some windex and stuck it on once it was dry. Have been on for almost a year now.

Could also hot glue some heavy earth magnets like Josh did.

Good to know. Does more dirt/debris get in if you don't reattach the entire top portion? Any wind noise without it?

I haven't noticed any issues with debris or wind noise. Honestly the holes are their even if they have the running boards attached and now it is easier for the debris to get out. If I lived in an area with lots of snow and/or salt roads I would want to put something there to seal up the holes. And the door seal hides any wind noise.

Yep - we are working on a plug and play solution. :)

Hi, Love your rig. What did you use as crossbars for your factory roof rack? I am in the hunt for one and would like to most a RTT eventually.

Did the same a few month back, using 3M, and no problems so far.
But sometimes I wish I could add a switch somewhere, to turn the lights off with the doors open.

Two of my LED strips have died already. I'm going to replace them and see if I just had bad luck..

I mean, for $16 who cares. Haha
The next ones are going on with magnets - I did adhesive at first. I don't mind replacing them annually if need be, but I want magnets if that's going to be a habit!

look into rare earth magnets - stronger

Sliders are soon to come but in preparation I picked up the OZ USA rock light kit for install. I used an aluminum “L” piece cut in to 2” lengths and bent from 90deg to about 45deg. Used self tapping screws to mount the brackets to the frame and rand the wires inside the frame rails. Two lights on the rear and one under each door. More pics to come.

Oh, I wired to my Switch-Pros controller. Plans to wire into the factory courtesy lights at some point.
