RTH stuck on Miller Jeep trail

It looks like your roof rack was not loaded as heavily as when you flopped on the slabs at Rubicon.

Did you pull the plugs to purge oil from the cylinders as suggested? 18 months ago I had a multi-roll mishap and my 80 lay on its driver side for 90 minutes and it fired right up with no problem. I'm sure it smoked some but it was dark out so........

24 years ago I left my fj40 on its drivers side over night. Once back in the wheels, it fired up and ran fine after it burned off the oil. No hydro lock on either ocasaion.

Your 80 is now a battle hardened trail machine. I would use it as such and probably enjoy it more than ever.

I cannot believe no one has said "It'll buff out" yet.

'Buffing it out' is sooooo 2016.

Time to order some Wit's End dry ice kits - 2017. :grinpimp:

@NLXTACY , @Fj81

And @shocktower - how about "Oh, it's a easy section. You'll 'Waltz' right through it!" :poof::hillbilly::poof:

@jp_waltz - I agree with the 'if you can fit glass, run it' -statement. That and use simple body spoons if the doors catch the fender, door on door, door on quarterpanel / roofline - any metal/metal violence.

For the glass-half-full, it looks like the windshield took the brunt, hopefully if the A is still straight on the windshield edge you can just get glass in, or polycarbonate if it won't get there.

And the rear quarter & rear roofbeam over the slider window look far less impacted than last time.

----Any chance it's the same body from last time, or is this a different 80 alltogether?

No matter which, I'd hang onto that 100K drivetrain/complete 80 if you can do a body swap with some haggard, no maint records but good shell, 400K+ FZJ80 body you can pick up on the low-low.

How's everone involved doing?
Worst injury just the pride?

Yeah pride can be kick in the teeth sometimes but in the big picture it's just stuff. My buddy or I weren't injured and we ended having a good rest if the trip when we got the 80 back to camp. I'm going to need to make a decision on weather to keep it or sell it for parts or as a whole. I'm going to sit on it for a couple weeks before I decide though. Im not sour about those who are calling dibs on stuff but Im not gonna play the dibs game yet. If...and only if I do sell parts, I'll put them up for sale here and will probably be the first person who shows up with cash(for the big parts). I just don't have any spare time right now so it may just sit for a while until I come up w a plan. I am thinking of chopping and caging but my fab skills are for garbage and my "expendable" income is pretty much non existent. Stay tuned I'll keep everyone in the loop.

This makes me sad.

This makes me sad.
I don't know much, bit my first impressions are that @jp_waltz is tough enough to put his Cruiser through what it was built for. Sure, it ended a bit rough but really it is only more money or work (same thing, different currency) to get it going or replace it. They print money every day, just depends on how you earn it and use it. I see people using their 80's hard and I'm envious (not jealous, because I am glad for them not spiteful). It reminds me to not be afraid to play hard and buff crap out later.

I hope you took the opportunity to rotate the tires while they were up in the air! :flipoff2:

Serious question, though. What size and make/model are those tires?

reason why its called the jeep miller trail. what were you thinking taking a toyota there. jk.
The irony to that is I had to pull my buddies jeep out. He had some electrical issues and wouldn't start so I ended up towing him from camp back to his truck at the trail head. Then I drove my busted up rig 2 hours home with a duct taped windshield. (Can't believe I didn't get pulled over) This 80 has taken a serious beating and pulled many rigs out of perilous situations with the amazement of those who were rescued.

I'm going to put this down: I met JP at church a few years ago after he bought this truck from a lady in CO (as I recall), and it was mighty prrrty. (The truck, not the lady. I didn't see her.) The reason I say that is because I admire those on this board who take their 80's and offroad the heck out of them. Pinstripe, dents, maybe even a roll here and there. I'm not that guy, at least not yet, but I admire those who put these trucks through some abuse. I think it's cool, and when I see an 80 with no scratches, and sliders that have never kissed a rock, I kind of shake my head. So, my hat is off to JP. He bought it, built it, abused it, got a ton of great use and adventure out of it with his family (far more than most 80's or their drivers will ever see), and I tip my hat. Well done, sir.

This is why I couldn't let myself buy a 100 series or GX470 just yet. I keep my 80 clean but don't mind taking it out and putting it to use. On the 100 and GX the ones I test drove were too "nice" for me to consider having a wet dog jump in the back and go bogging in the muddy snowmelt down a forest service road.

I joked about "dibs," but in all honestly, I say keep it and cage it. I hate buying new dirt bikes because I loathe the inevitability of that first crash when all the pretty vanishes in an instant. But oh how much more fun I can have once those scars are set. Damage will set you free!

Im sure eye balling that ARB front bumper ;)....how far are you from 95650..lol

That really sucks man, I'm glad you are ok.

damn, JP....
so glad you weren't hurt.

I was stuck at work when I saw the post on FB for the help request.

send me a PM, i'm down the road from you.
Maybe I can help rustle up some fab help and spares to get you rollin with the family in tow soon.

you gotta keep it.

What is the parts list priority? have you scoped out what it'll take to get a windshield into it?

I am happy everyone is alright. It sure does suck when you do damage like this to your toys. I rolled my pristine '94 Toyota P/U years ago. It was one of my first times actually wheeling it and it was still mint....still smelled like new car. Turns out what I thought was just a flat dirt field was a recently filled in ditch. Right side tires sunk in and pitched me hard onto the passenger side. My buddies face was pressed against the glass and I was dangling holding onto the steering wheel. We got her back right side up and there was a nice huge dent in the box and another on extended cab below the window. I felt a bit gut kicked. Ended up leaving them there and by the time she was stolen a few years later she had all sorts of battle scars all over the place that told a story. Definitely sleep on it. It can be fixed, it's a mere flesh wound.....like the Black Knight would say.....the eternal optimist.

My favorite part of this was when he said the JEEP was two wheel drive now from trying to right the beast. Not to make fun of jeeps...but....
