Just make sure that the FCC ID code matches. I'm using a couple of ebay units and they work perfectly and have been using them for a couple of years on my '97 with the rs3000 system. Only 1 button works just like the original FOB - just choose the button you want to use when you first do the learning cycle on the rs3000.

Range is NOT the fob, it is the antenna in the car. Search, there's been threads on extending the range. Mine easily activates from 100+ feet after I extended the antenna.

cheers,
george.

It matches the FCC ID (BAB237131-022)

Well, that sucks

I never liked the idea of one button doing everything :meh:

My wife never gets it right and always holds the button down too long to unlock and eventually sets off the horns

Yes, I know about the antenna mod all too well ;)

Thing is, I can tell when the battery is low in the OEM remote because the range gets diminished.

I figure a better quality remote might give it a little more range if it's built to work more efficiently with a more powerful signal :hmm:

The RS3000 learns the remote - it's not like you get a choice to press a bunch of different buttons, hence only one button will do the lock/unlock.

Your wife needs more training or should be kept away from your 80. Mine has succeeded in the complex task of pressing a single button and listening for one or two beeps to lock/unlock :)

The FOBs will tx with the same power until the battery level drops. Given the fob runs from a tiny capacity battery and no antenna to speak of, other than a PCB strip antenna, you aren't going to find a 'high power fob'. With the antenna mod and 100'+ range it's as good as you get. Run the rs3000 antenna to the roof if you want more :)

george.

How do I know what factory alarm system I have? It's a '93

you will need to crawl into the driver side footwell and look at the alarm system box

I have been told '93s came with aftermarket alarms of different brands, depending on port/dealer of install - not the RS 3000 system

it's always the wives

Hold the remote to your chin to get better range. Really! It works! If you don't believe me, Google it: better remote range against my chin.

The ebay one I got had the right FCC number and it didn't work. I sent it back and they shipped me an identical one and it worked fine. Not sure why the first one didn't work. Only the one button works and it does the lock and unlock. Kinda sucks, but at least it works.
