Rear shocks mounted for mockup and clearance. Gonna mount fronts and take it off jacks..... For the first time!! Put body on and check for clearance....

Cantilever suspensions are so badass.
How did you figure out what dimensions to build the cams to and what the spring rate of the coil overs should be?

My buddy knows all those formulas being a trophy truck builder. The spring rate we'll play it by ear once we get the weight on them....It's higher being cantilever...
Can you hurry him up a bit?
I need some shop time there!
Cantilever setups still befuddle me....but no more than a general knowledge of suspension, to qualify.
That said, the beauty of cantilever is all in the packaging (to me) and now we know that a balanced up and down wheel travel is attainable, contrary to popular belief that it's an all down, trophy truck suspension.

SHOULD prolly be posed elsewhere, many without the direct knowledge want to get in on, but think your buddy could answer in short order.
Your rear lowers are curved.
I'm assuming this is for clearance, as it is in most cases, but I have been curious to know how that effects the link tangent.
Lemme explain my question.
Typical links are straight and all calculations are based from point A to B in a straight line, the goal being the links remain as flat as possible (level) with the frame rails.
Does bending the link impact this?
Using yours, as an example, if they went from point A to B, there'd be a pitch to the link, but since it's curved for a percentage of the link length, it's flat within that same distance.
I've been trying to figure out for a long time, whether this somehow impacts calculator data, or if it should still be input as point A to point B, the curve having no bearing on link angle.

Bent rear lowers won't affect anything. Point A and B still work the same. Clearance was the motivator.
That makes sense, because the total travel of the coilover is going to be less due to the effect of the cam. Very cool!!

It's going to be tricky figuring out where to put the sway bars.....and I will need those for sure...very flexy..

Got both arms welded up. Now finish rear of frame, steering finalized, put body back on to check for clearance of fuel cell.... It'll be funky shaped..

Very cool setup, what are your plans for a sway bar?
Back in the day I designed a similar setup for 1:8 scale RC cars and incorporated the sway bar links into the shock links similar to this.

Pulling motor today and putting body on to kick up tank.... It's a new year. This is the year....
