I plan to do it on mine once I install a rear bumper.

I just completed my resonator delete and replaced with straight through pipe.

40min. job at my local muffler shop.

No difference in sound.

I have also replaced the air box with the aFe Cold Air and Scoop.

Overall: the truck has woken up!! Much more direct feedback and feel better response. Also better lower end torque. Overall extremely happy.

I always at some point do a cat back system on all my Land Cruisers. I’ve been so happy with this shop, I’ve had them do my 80 10+ years ago, my 100 5 years ago, and now my 200 last week.

You can just barely see the pipe sticking out the bottom in the second photo. I usually try to get the to do it as flush with the bottom of the bumper as possible. LOVE the sound of the Magnaflow (I’m sure it’s mostly the muffler). Almost not loud enough, even though I want to hear my kids in the very back.

I have the 12288 installed. Do you know what the difference is between yours and mine?

It's not the most expensive, but certainly not the cheapest way to go. But I figure these things could use a refresh and mild upgrade and will last well beyond my ownership.

I had a few little rust holes and at least one broken hanger. I think my rig had a tough life (even as stock) when it lived in Rhode Island before joining me in Utah in 2021. I also enjoy the (smaller) Magnaflow and it's sound as well as the slightly larger diameter piping going to 3".

I assume the 12288 is a slightly different model Magnaflow muffler. If I remember correctly, besides this being a dual inlet (I assume all 200 Series?) it might be the larger of the options. I remember them telling me there's a smaller and larger. The larger will be more quiet with the smaller being louder. I just informed them I would like a little more sound especially on acceleration, but I also use all 8 seatbelts and don't want the kids in the very back to be drowned out. I could (maybe should) email or call them to remind me what we went with there.

Awesome info everyone, I had smashed the tip on metal masher, and the resonator was starting to get dinged also. $140 and 2 hours later I was set. Great cheap easy mod!

I love the look of the side exit behind the rear tire. Any comment on how this has performed off road? I have a dissent rear because my OEM rear bumper was thrashed off road and my resonator too. I chopped mine and am deciding whether I should tuck it or run it out the side.

How are yall picking a shop to do this? Big chain or small locally owned?

In general, I have trust issues.

Ask around for a local shop that does custom work. This is a very easy job but the custom shops will have the stainless steel parts on hand etc. Lots of good muffler shops in my area barely have websites and may not even take appointments.

post #23

I was worried about making contact if/when coming down a shelf... but it's been great. Maybe I haven't been wheeling hard enough....

Ok so I’ve called around and finding someone to do this in stainless is proving more difficult than I had thought. The shops I’ve contacted use aluminized pipe. Is this a solid choice or should I look until I find stainless?

Artie,

I’d search until I find stainless. I’m very picky and the results are worth it.

Not a fan of aluminized pipe in any application.

Chopped, no change in sound, or really anything else other than clearance... the new rear bumper made it stick out like sore thumb.. and so I got it tucked while I was getting the bumper brackets welded up.

I agree with all those points from when I did mine. I really don't know why anyone would keep it. Extra reason to update and clean up with a cat-back system.
