Question for those of you that have changed your tailpipe. I see you all still run it mostly out the back for clearance issues. Is there any reason that I couldn't run it 90 degrees straight out the side of the truck below the bumper and behind the mudflap, like a pickup?

I realize this will impact clearance a little in that spot but I'm not doing any crazy wheeling and have stock bumpers. I'm having an issue with towing (long story) and I need my exhaust to go somewhere besides out the back.
Proceed. . . Make sure you do leave enough room for your mud flap solution.

Oh wow, that's perfect. Thanks!

I just have the factory flaps - as long as I stay an inch or so away from them and the plastic bumper I think I'll be ok on not melting them. The stock tip runs pretty close to the bumper from the factory.

Cost me $40 for them so supply the 3" pipe, bend it to 90 degrees, and then weld it all up. I had them land between my wing bolts in case I ever need to access them.

How does it sound under load? Like a large mountain climb on the freeway?

i detect no difference. windows open or not. load or not. speed or not.

Honestly, I can’t really see the rationale for Toyota adding the resonator yo begin with... The sound difference is barely detectable. It’s slightly different...but only slightly.

Banged up my resonator pretty good this last week so I am going to tackle this soon. Is there a preference on whether the side exit or straight back for the pipe Direction is better ?

All personal preference, whatever you like the look of more. One may flow better than the other or maybe not...but I doubt enough to tell a difference.

Your guy went fancy and used the last rubber hanger!
how much did that cost?

I need to do this. In our Florida heat and humidity, I always start the car first and then load up the back for baseball games, biking, etc.
That friggin tailpipe is hot is all h3ll sticking straight out the back. I am tired of burning my leg.

I cut mine off and haven't got around to extending the pipe yet. No issues so far.

(And yes my panhard bar is bent to heck and back)

That’s dangerous if it’s the factory bar. They aren’t very thick and can fatigue and crack from a simple bend like that.
I had one let go on my last 4runner on a freeway ramp and it was not a pleasant experience.
