Replaced the stereo in my LX450 with an Alpine 9" screen head unit

@ProjectsNMotion awesome work!
Can you snap a few photos showing what the unit looks like from the side. Drivers side, passenger side, and top. I am interested in this option!

Here you go

As I said, the head unit comes with plastic end caps to cover the sides, but I never bothered installing them

Cheers

So now that you’ve had it awhile.. how has it been performing? Looking to add a back up camera (and front cam for that matter) and I’m a bit of an audio snob.

How is the sound quality?

Also, I notice the camera image is reversed in your video. That would bug me. Is it correctable within the radio, or does it require a different cam?

If you're an audio snob, this isn't the vehicle for you. There are parallel surfaces everywhere in the interior and the speakers are nowhere near your ears, you will never have an audiophile-grade listening experience in an 80 series. The unit does sound good though. I was bothered by the lack of low end, which is an issue with the speakers not the head unit, so I added this subwoofer under the passenger seat once I removed the rear seat heater.

I'm not sure what you mean by a reversed image for the backup camera. It works the same way as every OEM backup camera I've ever used, it's analogous to the rear view mirror.

Cheers

I get it. Not looking for a sound quality comp winner, just gotta get rid of the tin can sound I have now. I have a Kenwood and amp hooked up to the stock speakers in my Prius, and it blows the Pioneer single din and cheapo pioneer speakers I put in the doors away. I’ll be changing those too and adding a sub.

Love the big screen and so far our choices are this or the Sony AX8000 coming out in December.

My apologies about the camera.. I’m a dunce. It was past my bedtime. You are correct. I guess I’ve got front camera on the brain.

No problem. It's a good unit, I'm quite happy with it. In the future, I might relocate it from the factory radio location to where the clock and center vent are, and then repurpose the factory radio location for aux switches and the like. That way, my eyes wouldn't have to move quite as far to look at Google Maps. But if I do attempt that, it won't be any time soon.

Cheers.

Do they make a cord so this could be a remote face radio? I have a 40 series with no room in the dash for a radio, so this looks awesome if there was a cord that went from the box to the face....

@ProjectsNMotion - what material for 3d printing did you select for the USB adapter? I tried standard abs (fdm) but its too brittle.

I believe I used Nylon. I'm not super knowledgeable about 3D printing though

I couldn't say. You should contact Pioneer and find out.

Nice looking install!

Do you think that the lower cubby would be visible from the driver seat, if the screen was adjusted all of the way up?

I am looking at getting this but wondering if the lower cubby can be used for other things like CB, HAM radio remote display or a switch panel...

It's hard to see from the pictures, but the screen is considerably thicker in the middle than it is at the top and bottom, because of how it mounts. The way I have it installed is actually as far up as the screen will go in the 80 Series, because of the dash surround. To accomplish what you're asking, you'd either have to notch the dash surround a good bit, or tilt the screen forward at a terrible angle.

That's why I said in an earlier post that I'm looking to move the whole thing up to where the stock clock is. It'll require some custom fabrication, but it'll be much more pleasant to interact with, and it'll open up the current Double DIN opening for more goodies.

Cheers
