I’ve been watching FJ40’s , 45’a and 55’s on BAT for the last 3-4 years. And that same question pops in my head….” There are always a bunch for sale..where the hell do they all come from?” But, 1 out of 15 may show quite well and appeal to me. I also watch these auctions to fool myself that I didn’t over spend for my own USA-spec 40. So many of us here are always working on, repairing, replacing parts, updating or modernizing to make our cruisers well maintained specialty vehicles. @MatthewMcD , I’d have no trouble buying your truck with full confidence…I have seen what you’ve done to it. Same for so many guys on the forum. They got heart and soul invested in their ride. We’re writing about all of the changes and improvements we make and even show loads of photos of the project. Not so with a sight unseen or poorly documented auction sales. Some sellers truly go out of their way to show every possible change or flaw to a prospective buyer and some go dark as the sale proceeds.
Up until 9-12 months ago I was usually impressed with the selling prices there… now it seems that each week there are a few that never reach reserve or are sold a second time on BAT but at a loss. Sadly, there are a few that paint and polish make them look ready to run and unfortunately need much more work and money to make it drivable\ and reliable
My 2 cents if it’s worth that much
