I’ve been watching FJ40’s , 45’a and 55’s on BAT for the last 3-4 years. And that same question pops in my head….” There are always a bunch for sale..where the hell do they all come from?” But, 1 out of 15 may show quite well and appeal to me. I also watch these auctions to fool myself that I didn’t over spend for my own USA-spec 40. So many of us here are always working on, repairing, replacing parts, updating or modernizing to make our cruisers well maintained specialty vehicles. @MatthewMcD , I’d have no trouble buying your truck with full confidence…I have seen what you’ve done to it. Same for so many guys on the forum. They got heart and soul invested in their ride. We’re writing about all of the changes and improvements we make and even show loads of photos of the project. Not so with a sight unseen or poorly documented auction sales. Some sellers truly go out of their way to show every possible change or flaw to a prospective buyer and some go dark as the sale proceeds.

Up until 9-12 months ago I was usually impressed with the selling prices there… now it seems that each week there are a few that never reach reserve or are sold a second time on BAT but at a loss. Sadly, there are a few that paint and polish make them look ready to run and unfortunately need much more work and money to make it drivable\ and reliable

My 2 cents if it’s worth that much

I don't spend any time on BAT because I don't have the space, budget, or time for another car.

The thing that surprises me is the number of 40/45s that are on sale. Reading the descriptions, many have been owned less that 2 years. Are these guys regularly "flipping" 40s or is this just a busy time for selling 40s. (Or is this a regular thing?) Like this one:

Having watched from afar the work y'all put in on this rig, I really hope you can get a great outcome. This one is a prize and deserves to go to someone who will appreciate it. (And hopefully, your work will be rewarded.)

Cheers!
I think there’s a lot of flippers, and very few who put their heart and soul into them before they flip them. Like the one you posted, very likely lipstick on a pig. Just my newb-ish observations.

Thank you! Glad to be here. If there’s any folks in the central Indiana region that like to teach me a few things, or point me to shops that specialize in LC’s…. Sure would appreciate to make the connections.
Sent you a dm. Curious as to what the part is you need, I have some of that stuff in IN.

Its getting harder and harder to turn a profit on a 40 flip. Parts are starting to get a little tougher to source and definitely more expensive.

@Jdc1 Haha…we all have the proof of that statement !

Just found out the later 2f(fj60) water pump was discontinued by Aisin. Just like the mid 70s disc/drum master. Early 40 fuel tank is NLa, 61040 heads are getting pretty rare……

Hard to not babysit this auction listing...
Be cool, be cool, man. It's doing great right now.
Looks like you did some research as to who might be interested and called them in I'm guessing? Got a bid out of it!

BaT loves complete, perfect vehicles.
BaT loves engaged sellers.
Everything but the current soft market is in your favor, and the people with real money and desire don't really care about the market, you just need two of them. You've got everything you can control going for you. I assume it has a reserve, which is only wise in this market, and you have an opportunity to strike a deal anyway if it's not met. Hopefully it goes way over!

Thanks, man. Those were a bunch of bidders that took an FJCO truck to 270k.

Well, that LS powered '78 just went for $63k. Hoping the ones who bid and didn't win head your way.
Just went and looked at all the photos of that truck…..:poop::poop::poop::poop::poop:

Whoever was bidding that high on that specific truck doesn't have the class to recognize what this 40 is.

8700 views and 700 watchers. Pretty decent turnout.

This thread went from 298k views to 304k since last Friday when the auction went live.

At one point there were over 150 people viewing the Mid thread.

I think we’ve represented Mud well, no political talk, all pretty high line land cruiser conversations mostly… @EWheeler did use a poop emoji….. And not one mention of any 6 4 or another 6.

I'll delete my post if its out of line or you don't want it in your thread....

Good luck today. I hope there is a reserve and the final bid blows way past it. This 40 is perfection!

All good. A well placed poop emoji can only help things.
