Edited; going to save my comment for after the auction.
I was thinking conversationally when I made my comment early this morning, but realized it could have been construed to dampen the outcome of the auction and I didn’t want that!

I had just responded about yesterdays 78 with the poop emojis, and how I thought it was a market indicator that people would rather have a driver than a restored 40 they’d be afraid to get dirty, but I was sure wrong on that and I’m not afraid to admit it!

Well, that was a lot of fun to watch.
Hope you can strike a deal to your satisfaction.
You ran a great sale.
11k + views, 746 watchers seems pretty fantastic to me.
Thank you, was a lot of fun, a lot of work and a lot of anxiety.

I was watching it all the time. I was hoping it would hit your mark
Thank you, $80 wasn’t getting it done this time.

The FJ market is what we call in valuation a “Bifurcated market”. 1) drivers/“daily” etc. and 2) collectors/nut and bolt restorations. It’s very important to understand which market the vehicle (house art etc.) competes in. If you’re firmly in one camp the other often seems crazy or illogical. Hence the term “trailer queen” by the people in the driver camp.
People and vehicles often have a foot in each camp, but most have a primary group they “compete” in (when it comes to price or value). “Trifurcated” when you consider rock crawlers or “hardcore” as the group is referred to on Mud! On my current build I am trying to build a daily/ rock crawler.. Mike Shull’s rig is a great recent build example! (These tend to be CO/UT/ID/CA rigs because of all the damn rocks.) Three somewhat distinct markets, particularly when selling (as opposed to owning driving). Back to work…

Great explanation.
I’m all about that hardcore/crawler/daily with really nice paint and seats. I want it all!

@Mike Shull spotted me up Poughkeepsie and down Black Bear, my first wheeling trip of any kind. His rig is great. Not really enough body roll for my taste though…:)

South Carolina is looking like a great place to visit…..
Well if you go, at least wave as you go by… you can’t miss a green FJ40!

Closing this chapter for us on the ‘72. What a ride. Thank you to everyone who helped with parts, advice and commentary since 12/2013. I’m not going to name names because there have been so many and I don’t want to forget anyone.

@dlzadl and I made the handoff to it’s new owners this morning in South Carolina. He will be introducing himself soon but is now the proud owner of one of the best 40 series in the country.

Just purchased the Carvill’s incredible FJ40 and joined ih8mud. The FJ40 will now reside in Charleston SC with myself a retired Custom Home Builder. I cannot say enough about Jesse and Dan getting this piece of pure perfection too me. This is not my first FJ40 but is by far the nicest and what I have been after all my adult life in an FJ40. It was a pure pleasure to meet and buy from such people and I will always be eternally grateful to them. To see this this Landcruiser in person words can’t really describe , the work, time and effort is truly unbelievable. Thank you Jesse and I will be on this site to keep up with all the great information it provides. And being retired and in my sixties looking forward to many adventures and fun with the FJ40 as she will be driven not a garage queen!
