LV Tailgate rust repair
Its time for the notorious REAR TAIL GATE rust repair. The lower section is "donzo" so off it must come. Going to rebuilt it from scratch:flush:
The outer shell is marked for high and low points. The outer shell was blasted with soda, so no warpage would happen, she is in worse shape than we wanted.
I may just have to make a new skin at this point!

LV Tailgate rust repair
Replacing the inner side if the tailgate we removed. Slowly welding and cooling as we go.
We will be applying a rust/ weld etch primer made by SEM before we close ourselves out. We also have to remove the mild scale surface rust layer. Since we are in the middle of the rebuilding process we will use a wire wheel.

Slowly ground down and smooth. Grinding can create heat warpage also. So we use air to cool and pherd brand grinding disc of all kinds to create what we want!

Made templates of the lower hinge pieces. 14 gage plus 3/16" for the bolt plates. The plates we will burn out on the table, fine tune with the vertical sander and have the bridgeport mill thread the 8mm holes.

Thanks for sharing the process you go through. What plasma table do you use and what CAD software?

The table is a Plasma Cam, Ive had it for 9 years, so its getting outdated, But it still does the job for us!
We will be looking into a Torchmate with a water base table next year.
The PC has been great for what we've put it through, I will say that. The last 2 years we have replaced every item, bearings, slides, wiring ETC.
As for software, we use Auto Cad and Solidworks.

That looks great!!
Care to make a few extra sets?;)

I have the files saved so Depending on what you need, we could burn out the pieces
