@Feldrian appropriately mentioned tooling and other required goodies. Those really help! Most folks that have the right tools use them more than once or twice a year. Come to think of it they have the experience, too. And they enjoy an income from plying their skills. Maybe that persistence can pay off since you have many of the tools you need plus you can fab up some of the tools you don't have, not to mention the patience to learn and the time to do all this. All in all, it would be a nice skill to have.
