The project went on hold least night when the cooling fan on my welder quit working. It coughed and hacked for a while so I opened it up. I found the exact fan selling for $20 but do you think this entry level Lincoln that I bought 12 years ago is supposed to be surviced? I’d say not so much.

By the way it’s assembled I would have it completely apart just to replace the fan. It’s put together like a puzzle in a chassis and then the chassis dropped into the metal cabinet. I got 12 years of reliable service from this $529 machine, but now it’s time to go shopping for a new welding machine.

I am very happy with my Millermatic 211. Only way I would consider multiprocess is if it had AC tig and not all of us have @Feldrian money to afford those 😬

I have the Diversion 180 tig set up too and the two welders together cost less than the multiprocess. I just don't have the arc welding capability but I don't miss it.
Says the guy who literally has a fab shop in is barn. 🧐

I did some shopping online yesterday while smoking a pork butt. The Esab Rebel 205 and 215 are affordable machines that are multiprocess and apparently popular on a world wide scale. Esab makes more welding machines than anyone.

I did go to welding school in the mid 90’s at the junior college and learned stick, mig and TIG even on Al but I don’t know that I would really ever need capability in a machine beyond the Mig that I’ve been doing the last 12 years for this hobby mostly.

I think I’ve already settled on the Millermatic 211 because it accepts 115/230 input and is simple to set and will weld up to 3/8” plate in a single pass. That’s all the welder this hobby needs. If I want to expand I can pick up a Tig machine down the road like you did.

I woke up to 1/2” of ice coating everything outside. Went out and slide down the driveway in my slippers, cup of coffee in hand. Don’t Know if I’ll make it out to buy that new welder today or not.

Yeah, it's nasty out. We have ice all over up here.

Just cranked up the heater in the garage. May as well be productive today!

Sounds great! I was supposed to travel up to Bothel today to visit my step son and his wife and young daughter for a day but that won’t happen. Looking at the weather though, I think I can make a run up there tomorrow due to a sharp warming trend. Would have to return tomorrow evening though because I have to work Christmas day.

The Millermatic is a good machine although a bit low on the duty cycle especially if you run it on 115 amp setting.
I know Calif. sucks but it currently 50 degrees with a high of 65 today 😝

I ended up with random PTO I forgot about and needed to burn. I'm off until 1/8. Hopefully I'll get motivated to get some of the project work on the Unicorn done before Sweet Brown arrives.

No snow wheeling for you today then :flipoff2:

Now you need a place to park Sweet Brown, a trailer and a tow rig :flipoff2:

Oh, I want more machine but can’t really justify it (or maybe I could reason my way into one). The 211 will be an upgrade for me.

I didn’t know you bought Sweet Brown. Should be fun.
I couldn't bring myself to cut up the Unicorn the way I'd need to to keep up with you, so I found an alternate solution.

Your solution will leave me in the dust. Looking forward to following you.

My wife is a hospital worker so she has to go to work especially as a supervisor I took her in the big Dodge since the Cruiser is in pieces. I aired the tires down and threw 700 pounds of weight in the bed. Got her to work and came to the Airgas store 1 mile from her work to buy that Millermatic 211 and a cart and these guys stayed home today. Wussy’s! Now I’m on extended hold That’s pure ice not snow
