I need an air nailer for finish work - trim, window casing, etc. What type/size do I need?

I've been using a 15 gauge SencoSFN-40 now for years. Installed hundreds of doors, and dropped it just as many. Whiteshark has had his longer and he's done twice the door installs that I've done. I usually leave the door and window installs to him.

This is the order in which I recommend em.

Senco, Hitachi Bostich, Porter-Cable.

The Porter-Cable's you can sometimes find a package deal such as their 16 and 18 gauge.

The only thing I recommend is go with the ones where the nail feed is swept back approx. 45 degrees. Much nicer when getting into tight spots and corners.

Senco makes great tools. For my occasional use, Porter Cable works great. Nail size depends on the project, generally 15 guage is used for structural, but it leaves big holes. 18 guage is good for tacking things 'till the glue dries. :D Staples are best on thin stuff, like bookcase backs, and upholstery.

I agree completely on every point!

I also have a Senco SFN-40 and it has served me well.

For "framing" nailers I like Hitachi, then Senco.
For sheathing staplers and coil roof nailers I like Bostich.
For finish nailers, you just can't beat a Senco.

I have a Hitachi NT65MA2, 15-gauge finish nailer, very happy with it. It has a cool feature where there's a small button above your thumb you can push go get a blast of air, great for blowing sawdust and drywall crap out of the way before you put up a piece of trim. I found it on craiglist for $100 in the case, hardly used, included 3 bricks of nails.

I have both Porter Cable 16 and 18 guage nailers. I got he 18 guage for around $89 on sale. It takes up to 2" long brads. I use this one often and like it. The 16 guage tends to split trim pieces.

Senco, had it for many many years. Sold my old yeller tools and picked them up after working in a cabinet shop.

One of the cabinet makers senco staplers was over 20 years old and still going stong.

Mine sit in a bin most of the time, but when I need them I know thier good to go.

I like Spot Nails from Southern Staples in DALLAS,Texas Ive used them for 25 years and built hundreds of remodels and homes. Mike
